Petrol to get Cheaper

The real price of petrol should be less then Rs.50 per liter but you know everyone is eating it.

he is actually making complete sense. he just doesnt know the nomenclature to express his views precisely. There is something called opportunity cost. People in poor countries have greater opportunity costs thats why they end up paying more for oil even when they are apparently paying the same amount of money for it.
For example if the price of an iphone is equal to the price of 20 meals in canada, its price will be equal to the price of 200 meals is Pakistan. Hence pakistanis are actually paying more. thats how economic costs work.
First of all, meals cannot be compared with oil, which is in finite supply. Second, the opportunity cost you speak of is virtual, not physical. Virtually, poor people are paying more for oil. Physically, they're paying less. Let's talk about airlines, which consume a finite amount of jet fuel. Just because PIA is in debt or Air Indus is a poor airline which flies 30 year old airplanes (737-300), does it mean their opportunity cost is greater? Virtually, yes. Physically, they still have to pay what international markets must pay. Now the government can kick in and offer subsidies, as has been the case for Pakistan in recent times.

For your last example, sure Pakistanis are paying more for iPhones (considering the poverty). But this does not mean the Apple will sell it for cheaper price. This means, iphone will be imported in Pakistan and then resold. Same can be said for oil.

Gents, please be civil. I am especially sensitive about Economy section going the way of politics section.
Any more insults will merit a warning / ban.
This is politics section.... Unless I'm wrong.

Ah.... I did not think that a thread relating to petrol prices would be in Siasat section, so I did not bother to check.

I am wrong you are right. Since this thread about prices of petrol is in Siasat section, feel free to bash your collective selves to smithreens. But do still at least *try* to be civil.

I've seen many instances of people like @Leader try to bring politics to Economy section. This is the first instance that I have noticed in which an economy-related thread is in Politics section.

So, while PTI people wish to turn Economic section into Politics by way of inuendo, sleight, & just shameless half-truths, N-league supporters are doing the exact opposite by turning Politics section into Economy section.

One needs only a few seconds to think about this and come to the conclusion that this is actually what both parties (PTI & PML-N) do best: PTI makes Economics a function of politics and PML-N makes Politics a function of Economics. One likes to get 'high', the other likes to eat more than he can digest. Wonderful.

Ek hizyan bakta hai, doosra dastarkhwan sai nahi uThta. Dono man-moji hain. Aur Qoum hairan kabhi ek ko daikhti hai aur kabhi doosray ko.

This thread has correlation with siasat. Since petrol prices does put a dent in Imran's "struggle," we can discuss siasat in context of petrol. But some people have to act "dumb" and sadly then I have to pull my economics 101 to teach them some.

@Leader has posted similar links, similar body and only different title in different sections across this forum. Such as, promotion of KP tourism in tourism and siasat section.

On a final note, I doubt the OP is pro any political party AFAIK. But if you're pointing at I or some of us, well, I've given you the reason already. This topic can be discussed in context of politics (will cheap petrol end dharna? will cheap petrol raise PML popularity?). But if some idiocy is shown here, especially when it comes to "entitlement" (such as, just because we're poor, we deserve cheap oil/free money) or someone who quotes me and offers extreme idiotic comment (such as 1 Canadian dollar is 10 rupees), I'll jump in and offer a correction. Pakistan isn't about "we poor, give us all your money" as it has become now.

I had avoided this thread until I say "petrol should be 30 rupees cheaper." That's entitlement. So I offered amusing reply of why not making petrol 10 rupees or for free (posted had asked for some 40-50 rupees/liter).

It's holidays, I like to have some amusement here. But if that is a problem, well, there is the PM I sent you a while ago that hasn't been addressed. You may follow up on that and accept my offer.

Petrol should get cheaper because oil prices have fallen all over the world. If the prices littler prices are reduced in Pakistan, it will be because of international rates & not because of Govt. who will try to take credit & say lies on how much our economy is developing which is completely BULL SH!T.
