BENGALURU: This year's competition to be named PETA India's Hottest Vegetarian Celebrities was tougher than ever - but no one was more deserving of the title than Prime Minister Narendra Modi and legendary actor Rekha. Both have made choosing plant-based foods more popular than ever in 2014. The two winners beat out a strong group of competitors, including Amitabh Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut, Hema Malini, Shahid Kapoor, Vidya Balan, R Madhavan and Vidyut Jammwal.

Rekha, winner of three Filmfare Awards, credits her healthy vegetarian diet and practise of yoga with helping her achieve an impressive level of fitness. "Rekha and Prime Minister Modi have inspired caring people everywhere to ditch meat in favour of vegetarian foods," says PETA India chief executive officer Poorva Joshipura. "Both of PETA India's winners prove that nothing is hotter than kindness, which they show every time they sit down for a meal."

In addition to causing animal suffering on a massive scale, eating meat has been conclusively linked to heart disease, strokes, diabetes, cancer and obesity. And a United Nations report concluded that a global shift towards a plant-based diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change.

PETA India, whose motto reads, in part, that "animals are not ours to eat", selected the winners based on several factors, including vote count

fully agreed :enjoy:. vegetarian diet is the best diet, not only in terms of health benefits but also as a means of showing kindness to those poor animals who suffer because of people wanting to gratify their taste buds at the cost of the lives of these poor creatures.
