Spring Onion I am a supporter of PTI but please don't support some extremely chauvinistic claims like those of Pervez Khattak. Why bring ethnicity in anyway? Isn't PTI a nationalist party rather than serving the interests of one group (as claimed by Pervez Khattak Pathans?)

I mean this is where the problem starts. It started the same way with my family and the period when our relatives started voting from JI to MQM the problem began. The reasons were that they refused to acknowledge the wrongs ad attrocities committed even at that time by APMSO. When they were pointed to the fact Altaf has made a treacherous speech they quickly justified it, then belittled the event saying others had done the same. I mean this is where Pakistani nationalism dies and ethnic chauvinism begins. This Khattak incident is exactly putting us on the same point.

By the way I am technically a muhajir but see myself more as pathan and we might have some historic links. It does not make me deny the fact that Pervez Khattak speech was unneeded and wrong. Please don't become like those Pashtuns on pashtunforums who hate their own country. This is the first step of sliding in that direction. Also we condemn Altaf for treasonous speeches. Then suggest ways to kick out sharif's. Give some solution because Sharif's and Zardari's are beghairat. No matter how much their corruption is unveiled their lust for power won't disappear. If you think the military will get them Musharraf failed to ban PPPP and PMLN forever while other martial law administrators like Ayub Khan had Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto as foreign minister (birth of PPPP was from there) and Zia Ul Haq's Punjab CM was Nawaz Sharif (PMLN was born there)... Not to say Musharraf was sympathetic to MQM too though the economy was moving in a good direction under him and he was patriotic.

Galvanizing one section of the population (pathans) is not going to serve anyone's interests. Ethnic tensions should be reduced if not eliminated. We are locked in a common ethnic mentality and Pervez Khattak has shown it just like Altaf Hussain and Zulfiqar Mirza. If another ethnic group does it its wrong and ours does it is right? Doesn't make sense.

I don't think its too hard to define nationalism. Its loving your country (land) and all your countrymen (people) regardless of ethnic, religious, spirtual and ideological differences and seeing those negatively who try to harm it or break it.

I understand that all ethnic groups should be given their rights and their basic right to promote culture, thinking, customs, way of life and art. But it should not be used to put the ethnic group on a collision course with the country. Thats when ethnic chauvinism overtakes nationalism.

The PPP's hold has all but waned which has led to a reversion until recently to local affiliation politics. PML(n) popularity existed so as long as the traders felt the benefit: that is long gone.
That leaves the ANP with its consistency in ethnic politics at 15-35% of the vote at any time.
Some of the vote being stolen by political affiliations moving to PTI - same faces new party - same electoral tactics in desperate times.
