You have only been here for a month and so suspicions will grow that you are a persistant troll that changes his handle from time to time.

It's OK kumar. Knock yourself out foaming at the mouth.

No one here gives rat's behind about Bhakt rants. No takers here.

In fact there are tons of intelligent Indians doubting Bhakt narrative via twitter in India itself, deal with those folks.

Uneducated idiots like Modi, Motabhai and Sitharaman are running a country when they aren't even qualified to run a Gobar collection committee.

First was rebasing which all countries do every 5-10 years and this is for the next fiscal.

Please remember to stock up on enough Burnol next time you are at the supermarket.

You forget to mention high GDP growth as well.
No doubt, Golden Bangladesh GDP is growing. Here is an example of high growth. No doubt, BD will become as developed as the UK in a few years.

Do you know what that digital service is and who is responsible for it? These are cables from ISP and cable operators. Whenever you start to cut the cable general public protest for service disruptions and ISP and cable operators protest for affecting their business.

So you are as rich as Vietnam in per capita? Just see Hanoi at a glance and then see BD and then tell me if they are look similar. Dont give the accumulated wealth BS.

If you were at $2700 the country wouldnt look so shambolic.

I visited Dhaka after a few years hiatus in 2019. Even after a few years changes were visible and "shambolic" was not how I'd describe them. Like I said before, you have to visit. The situation is the same like how Bangkok was, before they built their MRT and Freeways.

Part of the other reason Dhaka looks more "shambolic" than other cities is the influx of many semi and low skilled low-income people from around the country and even from outside our borders because of the various apparel factories within the city which were allowed to be set up as a strategic mistake earlier in the past decades. This introduces slums and unwanted population density who cannot be supported by city services because they are unable to pay for them.

If one takes away these slum dwellers outside of Dhaka with jobs in SEZs a process already in motion, then population density will be easily halved. The only reason they are in the city is because of unskilled jobs, and those will be moved to the SEZ's or with construction jobs outside of Dhaka soon, as intra-city mega projects slowly reduce soon.

Many of my own friends going to visit Dhaka after even three years described the many changes taking place. New construction with new towers, the expansion of the city to all directions. These changes would not take place if there was no money, income or exports. I have documented these in the urban development thread and the sticky infra and economic development thread - take a look some time.

The only minus I saw in my last visit was bad traffic snarls, which are about to get a respite because of upcoming projects like Expressways, MRT (first of six lines going live soon), BRT and a slew of other measures like regular Bus route harmonization. There are all sorts of construction projects going on, and construction naturally does not look good.

Again - you have to visit yourself. YT videos and images give no idea.

Do some other comparison. Vietnams per capita gdp both nominal and ppp is almost double.

Better comparison can be Nigeria, Congo, Ghana, some South Indian states etc.

Below are vietnams stat:

GDP per capita
  • Increase
    $4,081.69 (nominal, 2022 est.)[4]
  • Increase
    $12,590.541(PPP, 2022 est.)[4]

12 million plus people in 170 sq km. Jeez I can imagine the scenerio. It has more people per km than any city in the world.

It looks worse in vlogs and pictures than many countries having per capita of $1000. Mark this post in a few weeks time there will be another statement by BD minister of per capita being at $3000

Rate of Urbanization in Dhaka is high.

That is for one single massive reason, you can make a living doing something here. And also because unscrupulous people exist in our societies who build structures on govt. land illegally.

There is money too be made here in Dhaka, whether you are a UBER motorcycle driver - or a Millionaire 30 times over (Ultra High Net Worth people). Bangladesh rate of increase for these UHNW people is the HIGHEST GLOBALLY (17%), even higher than China. Double the rate of India and Pakistan.

You can scoff at the slums (which aren't really that much of an issue compared to the slums next door in our large neighbor), but slums get created when there is uncontrolled or unplanned growth, which is still JOB growth, unlike the JOBLESS Top down growth next door in India which is non-inclusive for poorer folks and therefore unsustainable.

The reason why we are discussing this over and over again is your relative inability to grasp basic urbanization concepts, the reason for Bangladesh' growth and the simple disconnect trying to make you comprehend why poverty exists. You need to study these before commenting. Then you won't scoff at slums anymore. Slums exist in every country in South Asia.

Trying to pass comments without knowledge is the domain of children, let's not do that here.

It would have been nice if South Asia was as disciplined as China - but it is not. So we will have some slums always. One cannot wish away slums as long as we have poor people.

Nope Vietnam is not at 4,100 US dollar nominal.

BD would reach this level on a relative basis in the mid-2030s and so Dhaka by then will look similar to Hanoi.

Please do not forget your Burnol next time you are at the supermarket.

Vietnam's nominal and ppp gdp per capita is almost twice of Bangladesh. Moreover Vietnam spend 9 percent of GDP on building infrastructure(one of the highest rate in the world), while Bangladesh spend just 3 percent of GDP on infrastructure. Combining these two facts means, on average Vietnam's infrastructure would look 6 times better than Bangladesh. I hope you will never put forward this comparison in future. Per capita income climbing to 2785 Dollar from 2554 dollar is nothing unusual. It is only about 9 percent increase, considering that Bangladesh's GDP is likely to grow 6.6 percent this year and Dollar's yearly inflation, this 9 percent increase in per capita income is entirely within normal range.
