Something similar happened to me in 3rd grade. Being the smallest by age and the politest of the bunch, I was routinely turned into a punching bag. I suspect in hindsight it was my saying shukria (thank you) at each beating that kept the fun in it for them. But I knew no other way, having grown with no other kids around at home.

But that day the red mist descended. For many long minutes more than 30 classmates were thrashed around in that corner of the school courtyard.
