Joining the army is not affected by caste. I am a Brahmin, yet I have family in the armed forces. Caste based discrimination is illegal by constitutional law in India and as such does not affect promotion.

and yet the caste system is widely practiced in india
and for the ones affected by the caste system and want to escape it they cant because 7plus states in india do not allow religious conversion
if the caste system was really banned by the indian government such laws would not be enforced

Only conversion out of fear and greed is banned. Anyone can convert to any religion of his/her choice.

law is law, fact is fact.everybody knows it,even in most lawful country there're still many powerful hidden rules.

I can hardly believe Brahman and pariah get really fair opportunity to promotion.

I wonder when you know very little about a subject then how you hope for advanced studies..?come out of India mania and get well

For your information apart from brahman all these words are only for intelectual digestion for people who wants masters in history

As far as" brahman" is considered this word has universal relevance .whole hinduism is revolving around this..As many of here thinks that hinduism has got hundreds of Gods and so it is pereption of those who want to see it from outside ..Everything in hinduism points to a ultimate source and that is self realised atman I e "brahman"
As I said It Is not a caste and everyone has the potential to become a brahman ..
Your question is relevent if you uttered it 3000 years ago...and in that time these were not castes but were professions

Not exactly! Rural pockets still have casteism and in the whole scenario is kinda reversed in the country. Legitimate caste discrimination in the form of Reservations and quotas, which more or less makes the General category(the people who do not come under the reservation/people who are not classfied as Backward) to struggle to get an admission in colleges and government jobs and Civil services. Which has contributed to quite a bit of brain drain.

with the rise of private sector, it's gettng obsolete especially in cities.
The passport to sucess now is ur resume ur educational qualification and fluency in English.you r judged on that basis and not on ur caste

its okay as long as you are well educated and are able to secure the top marks to get a seat in the top institutions. What I am discussing here is about discrimination. as in treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit:

as far as i know it really disappeared from big and medium cities but still exist in small cities and villages of India[especially north India].
Although it became hot topic in big cities after increment of quota of OBC.
my self belongs to group called 'Dalit' but i am studying in one of top institutions of india and i don't belong to a rich family so i ll say quota system did good also.
i have opportunity in all fields same as the other casts.never felt discriminated.

from 4 posts above, may I understand as Indian meet the same situation in China which had happen and now still remain in some degree.that in urban and rural area different develop speed make different scheme of society.it is impossible to take urban rules to rural area right now,and it is impossible to make urbane area fall back too.

so,how many sildiors of indian army come from urbane area, and how many come from rural area?

I don't mean i want urban areas fall back,I mean it is on the way of development,so itself will not fall back.no matter people want advance or fall back, like a machine, when it running up,no one could stop it anymore.
