Pentagon Chooses Two Companies to Build Flying Humvee

Wouldn't you need specialized pilot to drive the humvee? (assuming that the control is similar to helicopter) Lol maybe have this for special force unit or something.

Just get some videogame nerds and tell them that you want them to test out this really awesome flight-sim peripheral on the 360. Get them hooked and then tell them that they could actually do something great for the country with their skillz (as well as earn college tuition).:rofl::rofl:

Ancestors of this thing and it's flyers, wet their pants pretty bad in the good old days of the mujahideen.

The only pants that were wet were those of the Mujahids after they dove into their man holes, most Hind pilots volunteered to provide close air support or perform extraction missions over hostile territory. Having family that fought in Afghanistan i can tell you that much of the Hinds that were shot down actually returned to base but were written off due to heavy damage or performed an auto rotation. MI-24 losses can be classified in several catagories, stinger losses, heavy machine gun losses (more common), pilot error, and mechanical problems.

The only thing that the mujahids and their small arms did was they caused most, but not all, pilots to fly higher to stay out of range of hostile fire, but when called upon they would come in low and pound the enemy.

$40 million is that a misprint? I would have thought the pentagon would spend more than that redesigning the paper clip.

But if they are taking open submissions,

Job done you can mail me the check.

For the love of god why?

Instead of this monstrously stupid idea why not finish the Osprey project.
The Osprey is done. And it is funny reading criticisms of a project study -- just a project study -- coming from countries that are struggling to catch up to the US on the military technology front.

Do those at least have some bullet-proofing done to them?

I don't think you get my meaning. I wanted the Marine corp to finish the osprey. I thought it was a helluva a good idea.

Yes they are reinforced but there isnt much you can do to protect a toyota from an RPG

Do many sheep carry RPG's in NZ?

I think the Vassiniti's picture is taken in Somalia. Anyhow I think they should add an outboard to the car so they could go pirate hunting when they feel like it :D.

Sure...But for now, you can buy the Chinese knock-off version. They bought the 'Hummer' brand. Do keep in mind that the 'Hummer' brand is nothing more than an AMG lookalike body bolted to a truck chassis.

The Osprey is flying with the Marines and the USAF SpecOps. What you seemingly do not understand is what DARPA is and does. For every DARPA funded project that made it past 'study' status and into experimental development, there are dozens if not more that are shelved for variety of reasons such as current inapplicability or lack of further financing. Then there are hundreds more that never made it past conceptual studies. DARPA invests in -- and with -- what is rightly called 'patience capital' and this looks like nothing more than what it is -- a 'feasibility study'. Criticisms sounds more like petty jealousy to me.

To give credit where it is due we already do have some Humvee's for the PRT thanks to the US

Actually the Hummer deal never got through. Unless Gambit could produce info saying that China has licensed Hummer production I think it is safe to say that he is wrong t his time.

I'm surprise they kept the troop transport capability.

Thomas do you know if the Hind can hover in place? or does it have to maintain a certain airspeed.

If I remember correctly it can't hover.

The Hind is pretty much a flying tank. As such it can't maneuver much compared to other attack helicopters. Personally I would rather have the maneuverability.
