PEMRA and Pakistan Satellite Goods Association takes unprecedented step over Indian movies and DTH broadcast in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chairman Saleem Baig said that no Bollywood movie would be allowed to run at Pakistani cinemas.

All Pakistan Satellite Goods Association voluntarily destroyed illegal Indian DTH and C-line equipment in a convention which was graced by PEMRA chairman Saleem Baig.

PEMRA acknowledged the traders of Hall Road saying that Indian DTH is a potential threat to local DTH. He added that he will extend the sphere of this DTH crackdown even to cable operators who are illegally providing and promoting Indian DTH in Pakistan.

According to the Supreme Court, this crackdown was ordered to work briskly to benefit the investment in local DTH and protect the cultural, social, religious and ethical values of Pakistan.

Whereas, the PEMRA chairman told media that no Bollywood movie would be distributed at any Pakistani cinema. He said India attacks on the same country where it mints money by distributing its movies.

The chairman also shared that PEMRA is thankful to the traders association of Mall Road and standing with them on this matter. All Pakistan Satellite Goods Association officials said that traders are against the Indian content. And it also announced the ban on Indian channels.

What about our own DTH that have been talked about for over 5 years now? Launch that ASAP, its a multi million dollar tender, if we can get two companies it will be even bigger. Pakistan is a huge market and lucrative business opportunity for DTH TV. Ban the illegal Indian DTH, launch your own, earn millions, save millions sent to India illegally, promote your own country/channels etc. Why is it so hard to see the multiple benefits. I hope the current gov. work on this in next few months.

I dont know if the news is true but some one told me that Gorumet got the licence for DTH. GEO and Gourmet both had applied and Gourmet won.

Its amazing news but it happen every now and then cuz let indian content take place in Pakistan air where india dont allow any Pakistani content in their media.. it sud be zero tolerant policy we still have some commercials where they have indian actors or whole commercial is based on indians.
Indian content sud be banned.

What we really need to do to support cinema houses is to get urdu voiceovers. This would make movies accessible to a larger part of the population and will give job opportunities to theatre actors. Which can improve their exposure and availability to both tv and movies local (currently we have the same few faces doing the movies).
