And has that hair-splitting prevented Brahmins, Thakurs, Rajputs and other Upper Castes from discriminating against Dalits ?
Right on PDF there was a thread about a Dalit Indian army soldier who, during his wedding procession in his village, rode on a horse and the village's Upper Caste "elders" forced him to dismount from the horse.
In Iraq during Saddam's time the Christian, Tariq Aziz, was Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister ( at different times ).
In the Syrian government and military there are Christians in important posts.
About early Pakistan, there were splits among Muslims too. Fatima Jinnah, when she was among the living, was disliked by the mullahs. And there were leftists who bided their time to take over the governance of the country.

Rohith was a Dalit because his mother was a Dalit. His mother was abandoned by her husband when he came to know that she was a Dalit. She lived in a Dalit ghetto along with her three children and thus Rohith identified himself and was raised as a Dalit and endured all the injustices and slights that Dalits endure, including an Upper Caste tuition teacher moving Raja Vemula's ( Rohith's brother ) drinking water glass with a pen.
