DAVOS, SWITZERLAND: Former army chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif has termed Kashmir as the unfinished agenda of Partition, saying normality will return to the region only after resolving the long-standing dispute.

The ex-COAS expressed these remarks while speaking at ‘Pakistan Breakfast’ on the sidelines of World Economic Forum (WEF)’s 47th annual meeting on Thursday.

The session was arranged by Pathfinder Group in its efforts to promote the country at the forum attended by the world’s leading political and business personalities.

Gen (retd) Raheel stressed that the Kashmir issue should be resolved as per aspirations of the Kashmiri people, and resolutions of the United Nations to achieve durable peace in South Asia. “Pakistan needs peace but the core issue is Kashmir, which has to be resolved first,” he said.

The restive Himalayan region suffered a rise in violence last year after the killing in July of a popular young rebel leader in a gun battle with soldiers. Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan, but both claim it in full.

Spy agencies must help forge trust: Gen Raheel

In reply to a question whether peace and economic prosperity could be achieved in South Asia without the resolution of Kashmir dispute, Gen (retd) Raheel said, “There are three words to explain how to move forward and these are Kashmir, Kashmir and Kashmir.”

Responding to another query, the former army chief said Haqqani network’s presence in Pakistan was a mere rhetoric. “Pakistan no more has safe havens and all these terrorist networks and their training camps have been flushed out of Pakistan,” he said. “This is evident…there has hardly been any drone strike in recent past.”

The ex-COAS said Islamabad was ready to go to any length to have peace with Kabul but “there are many terrorist havens in Afghanistan and we have many times shared their locations [with Afghan government]”.
Looks like he is either obsessed with Kashmir or has very little knowledge about subcontinental politics.
Talibani attacks and violence in Afghanistan has nothing to do with Kashmir.
Tehrik-e-taliban Pakistan's violence has nothing to do with Kashmir.
Balochistan violence has nothing to do with Kashmir.
Nepal's constitutional crisis has nothing to do with Kashmir.
Attack on bloggers and minorities in Bangladesh has nothing to do with Kashmir.
Kashmir is not the only state in India to have separatist violence. And Kashmir is not the biggest sector of violence in India.

For his information, despite border and territorial disputes between India and China, there is peace and also business.

How much Pakistani elite milk their people is amazing. There are so many property disputes globally but hardly anyone mixes religion and concocts a heady brew to keep the population inebriated and under control like Pakistan does.

LOLz, I just read an Indian saying this. Funny you are.

.
His statement makes it clear that there will not be peace unless Kashmir is resolved.

Whereas India is ready for peace with status quo.

He means there will be no peace util there is peace in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK).e.i. Kashmir Issue is resolved according to UN resolution.

Pakistan cannot mask the main agenda "terror" in the name of Kashmir !

Wow!
Can you tell me how violence in Afghanistan, Nepal, Pakistan (TTP, Baluchistan), Bangladesh and Naxalism in India is related to Kashmir?
And why there is still peace between India and China despite status quo on Arunachal? And if there can be peace in Arunachal then why not in Kashmir?

Kashmir is almost absent in International discourse. Except Pakistan no one even mentions it. Even China has not changed its position on Kashmir despite the CPEC and all.

The problem is for them Kashmir first and Pakistan second...wrong priorities. And hen they are fighting 10 times more powerful enemy then them, a sure recipe for failure.

.
If Kishanganga and other Dams in the Kashmir(details can be googled) are giving any indications then obviously any sane voice can predict that no country can take away any part of Kashmir from India. So resolution of Kashmir can never be accepted by India if India is asked to leave any territory of Kashmir.

.
Pakistan can bring peace to the Indian Sub Continent by vacating Azad Kashmir- the earlier the better. Another innovative political solution is allow all the Provinces of Pakistan to choose via referundum whether the Provinces wish to join the larger Indian Union or wish to maintain the status quo......

It doesn't matter what the international community has to say. The fact is people of Indian occupied Kashmir want freedom. Whether they decide to join Pakistan or become an independent state is their choice.

Even after 70 years of ethnic cleansing, you cannot silence them.

No, all don't want freedom from India. As on ethnic cleansing, look at Baluchistan and see what you are doing. The conditions in J&K is 100 times better. You have no moral rights as a Pakistan to ask about HR violations in India.
