KARACHI: Pakistan’s cricket chief Ijaz Butt has said India rejected a proposal to share revenue from a possible series between the arch rivals on the grounds that India will play host.

“We hope the series will be revived and we told them we are ready to play in India but revenue should be shared 50-50, but they did not accept the proposal,” Butt said in an interview broadcast late on Thursday.

India cancelled a series with Pakistan after gunmen went on the rampage in Mumbai in November 2008, killing 166 people in attacks that India and the United States blamed on Pakistan-based militants.

Pakistan is slated to tour India next February and March in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Future Tour Programme, subject to clearance from both governments.

An ICC Task Team has also called for a revival of cricket between India and Pakistan, saying its absence is felt by millions of fans across the world.

“We had a detailed discussion with them (the Indian board) in Hong Kong last month and hope that something will come out soon,” said Butt.

“Naturally, compared to what we earn when we play any other top country, we earn much more if we play India. But we have to sort out details, but what they say is basically a one-sided affair,” said Butt.

Butt said Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had backed an Indian tour to Pakistan while hosting his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani at the World Cup semi-final between the two countries in India in March.

India, however, remains extremely concerned about security in Pakistan, where bomb and suicide attacks have killed around 4,500 people in the last four years and where the Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked in March 2009.

India last toured Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2008.

Sri Lanka Premier League postponed

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka has postponed a scheduled Twenty20 league this month because of a financial crisis and the possibility of further losses after India pulled out of the event.

Sri Lanka Cricket spokesman Brian Thomas said Friday the league’s first edition is being planned for next year.

Cricket officials have been accused of corruption and mismanagement and the sports body is in millions of dollars of debt after co-hosting this year’s World Cup along with India and Bangladesh.

”Honestly, we are finding it difficult to have the premier league without India’s support. We can’t get into more debt,” Thomas said.Sri Lanka Cricket has accumulated $69 million in debt after the World Cup and amid allegations of corruption the sports minister fired the previous administration.

India last month barred its players from taking part in the Sri Lanka Premier League, saying the tournament was being organized by a private company.

Twelve players including internationals Praveen Kumar, Munaf Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin were among those who had been expected to take part in the tournament.

Without the participation of Indian players, tournament organizers and Sri Lanka Cricket could not hope to get lucrative contracts from Indian broadcasters.

Thomas said the country’s newly appointed cricket authorities are hopeful of reaching an agreement with India over participation in next year’s planned league.

BCCI is having the last laugh

. . .
Personally, I believe cricket between India and Pakistan is becoming mundane. India vs. Australia or India vs. South Africa is much better bet now than India vs. Pakistan.

It seems that even BCCI has recognized this and are unwilling to play Pakistan. This is also reflected in the future tour program, where India doesn't play Pakistan much

.
I don't think 50-50 is reasonable since we're hosting the series. But I still think BCCI is evil blood-sucking corporate machine.

.
If india is hosting then where comes the logic of sharing the revenue ?
pakistan shud give up begging already.

.
It is better not to play with pakistan.. they (PCB and it's players) have the habbit of creating controversies in every series..

.
Why does Pakistan want 50% of the revenue? When it will be Indian companies paying most of the money for the rights to have the match on they TV channel and 500k Indians that will buy tickets to watch the match.

This is the most stupid thing I have ever heard in cricket.

The thread title, to my mind, is wrong.

It is not India, it is BCCI.

And BCCI is, by no stretch of imagination, is India.

Just like PCB is not Pakistan!

They are mere Cricket Boards and in India, they are totally autonomous.

In fact, there was a huge furore over just this issue - that they are not India, even if the team fielded in international cricket is called the Indian team!

BCCI sadly as per routine become fiefs of the Chairman!

Pakistan-India cricket matches have lost all the excitement. One, their team is not what it used to be. Second as an Indian I'm tired of hearing comments on "Hindus are like this", "Hindus have a small heart". All in all the PAK team and their management have become a bunch of whiners..

They alone are solely responsible for killing the excitement of Indo-Pak matches. They used to be super fun..not any more..

"If India plays england,it is match played by the official team of BCCI and not the official team of INDIA"

At last tht's wat we will see wen politician r allowed to rule sports.....hmmm...we thnk tht we r supporting our nation but actualy we r supporting bcci's team

if the above highlighted part is true.. then Ijaz Butt shouldn't be complaining about the below..
