World-renowned Brazilian author Paulo Coelho publicly defended Islam on his official Facebook page after a picture he posted of the Holy Quran led to an unsavoury comment by one of his fans.

The internationally-acclaimed author of The Alchemist, posted on August 8 an image of the Quran with the caption ‘Exhibition “Books that changed the world”’. Many of his fans commented in support of his post and it has so far earned 39,395 likes and 4, 499 shares.

However, one Facebook user took exception to his views and commented, “Really!!! This book is the source of violence and murder.”

Coelho did not remain silent and replied to the user defending Islam, “Not true. I am Christian, and for centuries we tried to imposed our religion by the force of the sword – check “cruzades”in the dictionary.. We murdered women – calling them witches, and we tried to stop science – like in the case of Galileu Galilei. So, it is not to blame a religion, but how people manipulate it.”

For all the author’s Pakistani fans, he even wished everyone in the country a Happy Independence Day.

Gradually the world seeking truth Only we Muslims are travelling in wrong direction... May Allah guide us to right path

It seems South America's Christian dominations are more respectful and understand the truths than many Western's extremely Christians.

May God bless Paulo Coelho !

Mashallah..........Brazilians and Pakistanis/Muslims have generally always got along together. We may be from different parts of the world but we for whatever reason seem to like eachother. I'm an ethnic Pakistani myself and grew up in a part of London which had a large Brazilian and South American community. All my best friends are Brazilian or Puerto Rican

islam is once again validated by thoughtful people like paulo coelho... earlier it was those like alexander pushkin and napoleon bonaparte.

sad is that such words as the teachings of quran have been perverted by the mullahs... but again, the mullahs in this century were birthed by the same crusaders like how the hashisheen were birthed by the earlier crusaders.

a true immediate follower of christ meeting a true muslim...

I read his book 'Manuscript Found in Accra' just last week. Fell in love with it right from the start and now plan on reading more of his works, starting with Alchemist. Anyone else here read Paulo Coelho?

Qaddafi was a true follower? Why are you insulting Islam?

I don't know how much knowledge this Paul fellow has of Quran and Islam..understanding Quran is not like understanding a geeta or bible ...it should be read with the context called tafsir..a person should have complete knowledge of when a particular aayat had been written ...

When you read Quran without tafsir you will find it incomprehensible in some parts ,peaceful at other places and threatening at other places(verses that were written describing punishments in hell)...one should not speak about things when they barely have any knowledge of something.

Quran has definitely influenced the world...but in a negative way.
He has not read it. He just gave an uninformed opinion. If he did and then liked it over and above others, he would have 'got the message', 'shed' Christianity and embraced the 'true faith'.

Ive read the Alchemist. Takes some time to get into it but its a good read. I like Coelhos personality a lot.

Qaddafi was a true follower? Why are you insulting Islam?

He was; Libya was a true Islamic state. Its calendar started from Muhammads (SAW) death; Friday was a weekly holiday and there was Shariah law in many areas; all of Libya was united under Islam. The west did what they did to Iraq; seeing a thriving and growing Muslim country.

i have read the Alchemist, it was so awesome, i stayed up for 24 hours straight just to finish it

Qaddafi was a true follower?

he was the imam... some new admirers call him the mahdi but i do not think that is necessary... "imam of all muslims" is just fine.

gaddfi vs saudi king...

((
))

Why are you insulting Islam?

so you say that those who opposed him and acted against him - qaeda terrorists like abdul-hakim belhaj and nato leaders like obama, sarkozy, hollande and cameron - are true muslims??
