The Government of the Slovak Republic has announced Patria to be the winner of the tender for BOV 8x8 programme. Patria will supply Slovakia with armoured wheeled vehicles as well as contributes to the creation of new jobs in the regions with currently high unemployment rates. The government decision was based on bids submitted at the end of 2021, as well as vehicle and weapon system tests carried out in February 2022. Patria’s offer was the best match to the requirements.

After approval by the government of the Slovak Republic, Defense Minister Jaroslav Naď has been commissioned to conclude a contract with the Finnish government for the delivery of 76 armored 8×8 wheeled armored vehicles of the type Armored Modular Vehicle AMV XP. According to a statement from the Slovakian Ministry of Defense, the vehicles for the 8×8 BOV (Bojovými Obrnenými Vozidlami) program will be delivered by Patria. The contract has an order value of 447 million euros and, in addition to the vehicles, includes services for logistics, ammunition and infrastructure. Delivery of the vehicles is scheduled to begin in 2023. At the end of 2021, five companies submitted an offer and made vehicles available for testing in February of this year. From the bids of the governments of Finland (AMV XP, Patria), Spain (VCR 8×8 Dragón, GDELS), Czech Republic (Pandur II, Tatra), USA (Stryker LAV III, GDLS) and Romania (Piranha V, GDELS) that of the Finnish government was selected. In addition to the technical evaluation and the life cycle costs, the participation of the local economy made a difference with 25 percent, as the ministry writes. The AMV XP is the latest version of Patria's mass-produced 8×8 wheeled armored vehicle since 2004. With a total weight of up to 32 tons, a maximum of 15 tons is available for payload. The basic protection can be increased modularly up to level 5 according to STANAG 4569. For propulsion, Patria uses a 480 kW Scania diesel engine in conjunction with an automatic gearbox. The individually suspended wheels have emergency running properties and can be adjusted to the terrain using a central tire pressure control. The hydraulically assisted steering acts on the 1st, 2nd and 4th axles. The Turra-30 remote-controlled turret manufactured by the Slovak company EVPU was chosen for armament. Main weapon is a 30mm autocannon, complemented by a 7.62 machine gun and guided anti-tank missiles. The turret is therefore also suitable for defending against low-flying targets at distances of up to 2,500 m. Slovakia receives 76 AMV XP from Finland According to Defense Minister Naď, the new vehicles will replace infantry fighting vehicles that are at the end of their technical lifespan. The new combat vehicles were also the basis for fulfilling Allied commitments to create a heavy mechanized brigade.https://esut.de/2022/03/meldungen/33429/die-slowakei-erhaelt-76-amv-xp-aus-finnland/
