I doubt that's the only reason for not helping.
I believe extortion and black mail is a real problem in China, but still to show any help even for a minute is disheartening.
That's because you have not seen those videos and wouldn't know about the extortion part.

. .
In the US always call 911 instead of physically help someone out when accident occur better to let the paramedic and police to handle it. Better be safe than sorry if your not qualify to treat someone, the accident victim family can sue you in court for negligent if person seriously injure or die during your help.

.
I don't know about Pakistan or China. But in India white foreigners are treated better than Indian citizens. They get away with things which a local can't
Except if they are female, but then again they will be treated like any other females, at least cant blame indians to be racists in that regard.

.
They should have call the police or paramedic to help the old man out.

.
O.O is it white booty or white man $$ they want??? I think Asians would get the same treatment they got money and they are spending it now.
Hi,
No, actually the one with money are far more worse and they treat other who are less privileged as sub-humans,
Unlike in western countries

It's called protecting your own arse. In China there have been cases of extortion by creating fake accidents and trying to lure those with kind hearts who are willing to help. A bunch of people would show up out of no where and along with the so called victim of the "accident" will start accusing you of causing him/her injuries and whilst trying to gain sympathy or eye witness from the crowd those gangs will threaten you by taking you to the police or pay up for the injuries.

there have been few instances helpers were falsely accused causing the harms to the injured subjects to extort money from helpers...as such the people of china keeps to themselves...there is a chinese saying 名哲保身 to play safe...

Isn't this one of the main reasons for the the proliferation of car cams in Russia?

this may be the case, but the little girl Xiao incident was due to lack of empathy. I think that if the little girl was white, many Chinese will help her. Sad but true. If you don't respect your kind do not expect respect from others.

They should have call the police or paramedic to help the old man out.
True, no one even bothered. The Xiao girl incident video was disturbing. Not only people did not help, a car ran over her and did not even stop.

China's Infamous 'Good Samaritan' Case Gets a New Ending: Adam Minter - Bloomberg View

Xu Shuolan, a 65-year-old grandmother stepped off a bus in Nanjing, and fell to the ground. Just behind her was Peng Yu, a 26-year-old student. While others passed her by, Peng –- a self-described Good Samaritan -- rushed to her aid, accompanied her to the hospital and even paid her modest bill.

In thanks, Xu Shuolin -– a woman of modest means –- sued Peng for roughly $7,000 in medical expenses she claimed were due to the fall, including broken bones. The judge, in turn, invented a new “everyday experience” standard in the law, suggesting that nobody pays a stranger’s medical expenses without a guilty conscience. And on that basis, he ruled against Peng Yu, turning the case into shorthand for the decline of Chinese morality.

There is no limit to human apathy... there is some evil deep inside us all.

.
When million people in the Middle East are dying because of the stupid proxy war, no one gives a fck about it, now some people suddenly became the saints concerning about few isolated incidents in China?

.
This is worse. This girl Xiao Yueyue was overrun deliberately by 2 PRC drivers. Everyone watched her die and no one moved her one side.

This was the most sickening video I have ever seen in my life. Ashamed of being a human; can't articulate my emotions right now...I'm a sensitive kind of person, still I gathered my courage to see the video and I regret it now, cuz that scene will surely resonate in my mind for a long time! I just hope that she is alive right now, although I highly doubt about it.
