Passengers aboard an Air India flight have been left traumatised after “a freak level” of turbulence left three passengers injured and caused a seat window to from its frame.
The packed Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Amritsar to Delhi reportedly hit a 15-minute patch of bad weather on the 30-minute flight on April 19, The Times of India reports.
The turbulence was so intense one passenger - who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt - was flung into the overhead cabin. Two other passengers also suffered injuries on the flight.
However, it was when a passenger’s window dropped out of its frame mid-flight that panic set in for some passengers.
Video footage, filmed by a fellow passenger, has now emerged showing a flight attendant incredibly attempting to place a window and its frame back in place as a female passenger cries with fear.
After the flight attendant gave the window frame a few hard shoves, it appeared to stay in place.
“The inside of a window panel came off,” an unnamed passenger told the newspaper.
“The outside window die not break and there was no de-pressurisation. Passengers were naturally terrified.”
Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation is investigating the incident.
The disturbing incident comes just days after a female passenger died on board a US plane.
Jennifer Riordan died after one of the engines on Southwest Airlines Flight 1380 blew up and shrapnel smashed into the window and the side of the plane.
The Boeing 737 made an emergency landing in Philadelphia at noon local time after leaving New York bound for Dallas.
