Today's India disses Nehru.
To give credit where credit is due, the Nehru-Gandhi continuum gave impoverished India a good 50 yrs. of breathing space.
Nehru was instrumental in pacifying the royal money grab by India.
Politicians of the day, lawyers all. Having sliced and diced the jewel in the crown, they collected their 'fees' by going for the old school, out of fashion royal houses.
It's fashionable to bash Nehru-Gandhi rule, yet Indira took out a United Pakistan which was potentially a tough economic rival and challenge. Just compare 200 million strong UP & Pakistan. Pak is way ahead even though UP started off with a juicy industrial base.
Rajiv Gandhi launched reforms under PVN Rao.
Sikh MMS put India on the Sikh rate of growth and everyone forgot about the Hindu rate.
