India’s Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar Quest for Affordable Air power has led to two major developments for Indian Air Force lately. Sukhoi has agreed to cap joint development cost of FGFA 5th generation fighter jet at $ 4 Billion each which means the Earlier price of $ 12 Billion demanded by Russia due to price inflation has successfully been reduced after hectic negotiations with visiting Sukhoi officials.

Parrikar was also instrumental in forcing Dassault to agree to sell Rafale Fighter jets at 2011 price submitted to India and refused to budge demands made by French negotiators who were adamant to sell Rafale fighter jets after adding current price inflation. Parrikar and his team were also successful in tackling many bluffs made by French team to force India to agree on a higher price.

Dassault also has agreed to allow Indian weapons integration into Rafale fighter jets including indigenously developed Astra BVRAAM and also share some of its technology so that it can be incorporated in India’s LCA MK-II and AMCA fighter jet project.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar by limiting Rafale fighter jets to just 36 has also saved India from going bankrupt in Indian air force quest to acquire 126 Rafale fighter jets for its fleet. Parrikar clearly seems to have understood the real needs of the air force instead of airforce dictating what it wants to defend India from regional rivals.

Parrikar also made Air force to agree to procure upgraded LCA Tejas fighter jet proposed by HAL with new AESA radar and modern avionics and let scientist mature MK-II variant and also start work on AMCA. India is also open to procure another affordable fighter jet which will be made in India by Private defence sector which will fill up slots vacated by retiring Mig-21 and Mig-27 in Indian Airforce.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar truly has turned fortunes for Indian Air force while bringing affordable at the table for India in maintaining a modern yet affordable air force keeping its traditional supremacy of its Military in the region rather than bankrupting India’s Economy inexpensive military procurement.

I guess in the process you forget 36 plane will be a liability considering infrastructure training .In the end it will be more costlier .Anyways its your money do what ever you feel comfortable with
 
no its just another SAAB funded article to push grippen NG for IAF while as for my information rafales will not make it but if they do they will be fully french built with 50% offset caluse and not more than 3 full squads but that too is spectical affordable air power measn

4.126 jags
5.126 bisons
6.126 tejas MK1a

of which if things go as planned all IAF fighters will be equipped with EL-2052 ASEA and ASEA based EW/ECM suites like spectra with israeli help accept MKIs which will get russian next gen AESA radar , AESA based EW& ECM suites and internal self protection jammers

and when time is right they will be repalced by FGFA/PAKFA/AMCA/AURA & 5th gen version of tejas or maybe the proposed new russian single engined 5th gen fighter
 

Not sure bro, seems we are having too many options to choose suddenly.. F16s, Gripen NG, F18s, Rafales and even an EF (under smart city route)

Lots of stuff in Rafale sticky.. may be go back by 30 odd pages as almost 5-6 pages gets filled up in a single day.. We have been discussing this point..

Lets see if Tejas program gets restricted with another western fighter by its side or something else..
 
depends if they want to kill the lca or not, i doubt it as it will set them back a few more years buying the gripen-ng or the f16

private defense companies of india might have plane to made a jet with the help of israel and france. because the old jets in IAF are more than 400 and just tejas can't fill their gap..

well the lca is riddled with problems, but it takes time but they do need to pull their finder out and get cracking.

As @Blue Marlin said its numbers are a issue and we need to put our hands up and say lets get this done with.. It will eventually happen of course..

There was some talk by a friend @randomradio who had told us that there is a plan called LSA .. Light Stealth Aircraft.. Its a plan by an ex naval services pilot which may be getting green lighted by Israeli help.. So that may eventually come in pvt sector..

If you referring to Rafale than yes most probably Rafale will see a pvt company under Make in India project. Some latest murmurs which i have posted suggests Rafale in India and in UAE deal may be connected as per Prasun K Sengupta.. Lets see if its true or not..

Yes... but that's not going to happen... He's just threatening Dassualt to bring down the cost. nice pressure tactics, have no idea if its going t work

We should be realistic here. We have he'll lot of fighters to replace. 16 Tejas per year won't slave this problem. MOD is rightly thought this point I guess. Lots of surprises awaits
