Paris suspect 'radicalised' since arrest: lawyer

Not to add that french jails aren't five stars hotels,

Unlike Norwegian prisons, which are nicer then the barracks I spent 5 years in:wacko:.

I'm not joking. This is really what the inside of Halden Prison looks like.

in contrast of those in France. Different world.

Pictures? I'm almost afraid to ask, but I've seen some bad prisons in the supposedly civilized world, so I'm prepared for the worst too. I've heard La Santé Prison is particularly bad.

The suicide nets are a nice touch.

Also, do French prisoners have the option of going to school while incarcerated? Anders Breivik raised a stink when he decided to return to school and pursue a degree in Political Science, after his application was first rejected, then accepted:

The university's rector, Ole Petter Ottersen, said that Norwegian inmates "have a right to pursue higher education in Norway if they meet the admission requirements and are successful in competition with other applicants."

Writing on the university's website, Mr Ottersen admitted that the university had faced "moral dilemmas" about Breivik's admission.

The rector added that the university had students whose family members had been killed by Breivik. However, he said that the university would abide by its rules "for our own sake, not for his."

As he studies from his prison, Breivik will be subject to strict regulations. He will be allowed no access to internet resources or receive any personal guidance from tutors. All communication with the university will take place via "a contact person in prison".

It's a right prisoners have, so I support it, but it did stir a fairly heated debate on the rights of prisoners in Norway. Do French prisoners have the same rights? Are they restricted based on the severity of the criminal's offenses?

Pictures? I'm almost afraid to ask, but I've seen the inside of American and Russian prisons (both modern Russian and American prisons are clean and orderly, but bland and boring too), and neither were too pleasant, so I'm prepared for the worst.

So,this is in mainland France. I can't even imagine how it is in our overseas departements.

Where would you think they keep this guy? Probably not a regualr prison but some special max security site.

Fleury-Merogis prison near Paris, France, is home to Salah Abdeslam, the sole surviving suspect in last November’s Paris terror attacks, who is held there in isolation.

Concerns about the spread of Islamist radicalism are not new in a penitentiary system where Muslims make up roughly 60 to 70 percent of the inmates.
