Parents poison girl in love with Dalit, watch her die

I don't understand why this happens on our subcontinent. It's not just India. Pakistan Bangladesh etc

It happens in the sub continent because girls and women are regarded as family possession and property until married off. The same sick attitude exists amongst the wealthy and the middle class and the poor. I am marrying a very educated Indian Muslim from Gujarat and I was really taken aback with his westernised manners and way of thinking until I met his mother. Her attitude was that once the nikah was completed I would "become the property of her family". Took me two whole days to put her in her place despite her son trying to defend her "backward way of thinking". This kind of mentality must be nipped in the bud and the entire mentality of the desi male must be re-engineered with education.

Don't try to derail the thread and go off topic. Focus on honour killing, caste system instead of discussing humane vs inhumane method of punishment, which is a good topic to discuss but just a deflection on this thread. Thanks

Are you really that insane or you do not try to understand the point of view of Indians... For me both people r of rotten mentality... those who killed their daughter for false pride and those who want to rip off the skin...

We have this problem in Pakistan and BD too...

Honor killing is not limited to caste only... In Indian Capital, one young boy named Ankit (Hindu) was killed by the family of her lover (a Muslim) by slitting his throat on a busy road...

I strongly feel that honor killing is a manic, a barbaric act... period...

. .
What kind of stone hearted subhuman savages they were who saw their daughter die a slow death in front of their eyes...just for having a wish to marry a Dalit boy...that speaks volumes about how culture and religion of hate they radically followed. They could provide her better options, make her meet some other boys etc.. ...not just kill her and that too like that.

Rest in peace!!!

I hope they catch all the culprits and skin them alive
Amen!!!

I would say just run away from this family if you want a trouble free life sister... there are a lot of better options.

@BDforever says it doesn't happen in Bangladesh. I too believe that BD is a bit more liberal than the rest of the Subcontinent.

True.

Though even if caste isn't a problem in someone's love story, the fact of a couple marrying for love will also create a problem for them.

As for me, I support inter-religion marriage as well.

And there is a group called Love Commandos which gives refuge to India's love birds when they are on the run.

There is a proposed legislative change in India called UCC ( Uniform Civil Code ) which is intended to provide a common, civil, secular set of laws for property disputes, weddings and so on, irrespective of religious personal law boards that exist for each Indian religious sect presently. I believe that the UCC will help prevent honor killings.

Good that you took a stand and tried.

This type of extremity (Honor Killing) is unheard of in Bangladesh.

Yes, it's a conservative country but it has no love lost for extremism like this one.

Families do hope that both Son and daughters to marry off with their blessings but no one is going after them if they marry without his/her families permission. The worse the families do is cut off relation with the children's for some time but eventually they always accept them back. That's a fact. No matter who you ask, it's all the same here.

And nowadays interracial and inter-religious marriage/relationships are getting very common in Bangladesh.

Edit: Posted clarification for who need it in the bracket.

This is same as the honor killings in Pakistan, don’t single out any religion cause it can backfire just as easily.
Some religious folks are fools.

The girl should have rather shooted at her bloody parents .

She would have kept hoping that her parents will see sense and agree to her marriage.

And sadly, even if she had lodged a police complaint against her parents, in many cases the police would not have lodged a complaint ( FIR ) and instead would have asked her to do what her dear parents said.
