Pakistan's Nuclear Submarine Project

.
Hi,
To be brutally honest, pakistan has again never designed any civilian nuclear reactor(for energy purpose) let alone a highly miniaturized naval variant of it that can sustain higher degrees of shock tolerances required for a naval reactor, for instance the reactor of oscar-2 class can sustain 50gs.
The sole desire for PN to have a nuke subs stems from the fact that india has it- while india has developed various types of indigenous reactors(starting from PHWRs,FBRs,to CHTR,india has also recently designed an indigenous 900MW light water reactor as opposed to the mainstay 700MW PHWR design) and in fact have offered 220MW and 550MW PHWRs designs for export,on the other hand, pakistan has literally neither the research nor the industries that can support the reactor design and development-
for instance pakistan doesnt have industries that can manufacture-
(a) pressure vessel of the reactor- coz that requires heavy forging capabilities
(b) steam generators
(c) steam turbines
(d) Pressurizers
(e) huge generators
(f) DCS and SCADA that are typically used in process industries and power plants alike
And more importantly the fuel cycle for a particular type of reactor
Pakistan would need to FIRST design and VALIDATE a reactor and only then can they realistically think about putting it in the hull of a submarine- till then it is pretty much a fan boy talk! One can not simply think aout running before learning to walk!
Eventhough, Brasil, Argentina and Iran have designed nuclear reactors ranging from approx 100 MW to 400 MW, I do not think that Pakistan is behind these countries in nuclear science. So the possibility is there, if not obvious.

Hi,
your reasoning is obviously flawed, because it is based on "assumption" that pakistan is not behind x,y,z(well that again is DEBATABLE) and hence pakistan has technologies developed by x,y,z.Whereas in reality,Pakistan has neither invested in the research of civilian energy reactors nor does pakistan have any public or pvt sector enterprise that can provide various systems used in nuclear plants, i have already made a note of those components in my previous comment. You are obviously free to consult any published paper you deem necessary however you would precisely end up concluding what i am writing here- and that is pakistan HAS NOT DESIGNED AN ENERGY REACTOR

And how do you know that? based on you own assumptions? I do think your reasoning is very flawed and backward, xyz were benchmarks with less nuclear know how and resources than Pakistan. Anyhow you can keep your analysis for yourself, they do not make much sense apart from some obvious fake wannabe contempt.

Arabian Sea is not a ideal playground for nuclear subs. With a very low average depth of sea level, it is practically impossible to hide a hot water guzzling behemoth that is a nuclear submarine.

.
so in india, to ask a logical counter question you need to go through research literature or credible evidence? probably that is why your initial question sucked miserably.

Dont you think you should have replied a bit more rationally?with arguments based on credible evidences and research literature?or that the education in Pakistan really need some overhauling?

huh. here comes the bharti intellectual, they all like to become when left answerless

Hi, only few discuss research like, gambit, Dillinger..
that I know of..
you will know who, as time goes..

Based upon the replies you got, I came to the conclusion Pakistan imports most of the equipments and customises it for themselves .

Don't check mate them..

If somebody discuss in uncivilised way, just ignore them..
Just like the previous poster..

If India is so good at nuclear reactors why is Russia building them for India? And we need 3 nuclear submarines because our nuclear triad will be incomplete without them. Nuclear weapons on diesel submarines dont make sense, as it has to surface from time to time.

hi,
"How do i know that"?- well the answer is relatively straight forward,i have utmost faith in published scientific literature and i do spend a considerable amount of my time and energy in going through the research being carried out in india, china and pakistan in the field of civilian nuclear engineering and back in my university, nuclear reactor controls and control system of various types of thermal plants occupied a great deal of my syllabus. If what you say is true, then why hesitate?why not post some CREDIBLE evidence in the form of research paper?

I had initially planned to stop replying to anything that is not logical or troll, however i couldnt help myself here,be it as it may be.You certainly dont have any idea about my qualifications and experience, either way,i know it is very difficult to find a Pakistani who is rational enough to understand the plethora of scientific research available. Do you really want me to elaborate on the existing research being carried out in the field of civilian energy reactors in pakistan?- i dont really want to shame anyone here.
Secondly if you really want to discuss rockets and space technology- i am all up for it

You made a mistake. doesn't reflect the education and qualification your are boasting about!

Do I give a ****? NO

What the heck are you talking about? I am done wasting my time with idiots, don't bother to respond.

@Thorough Pro

To make things simpler for you,i am quoting the reactors currently operational in pakistan and the country they are from, mind it i am not considering plutonium reactors or neutron flux reactors because they are research reactors intended for plutonium production or conducting research in neutron behavior in a controlled highly critical fission-

(a) CHANUPP reactors - all of them are chinese designed

(b)KANUPP reactors-
(i) 90MW -a small PHWR that was established by the canadians much the same way they established their PHWRs in india in 60s

(ii)KANUPP-2 and 3- are again being considered using chinese designed ACP-1000 or chinese variants of westinghouse reactors.
So where is again THE pakistani designed "ENERGY REACTOR(intended for commercial production of energy)"?
You might as well go through this-That would put full stop to your fan boy imaginations!
Nuclear Power in Pakistan
And lastly, it is not good to call names when you have absolutely no scientific evidence to support your claim- but then again that is typical of most of the pakistanis(with a few exceptions off course)

@amardeep mishra : Your effort is commendable to say the least. I appreciate your proof driven inference methodology. But you need to understand, here many do not posses or have the privilege of the literature rich background that you have (Indians, Pakistanis, Chinese..etc and including myself). As a part of a family of several people closely related to BARC, Tarapur, I have picked up a very cursory knowledge of this field, by reading same as you, but not as much. I understand all of your arguments and counter-arguments stem from solid proof, but this dose not jell with blind patriots. Be gentle with them.

Better for Pakistan to work with China on JV for N-Submarine and also for a coastal submarine with 1100-1500 Tons Draft. More over Pakistan can bring in other countries in the project from Middle East and North Africa too.
