Considering we have been operating Allouette's for the past 40 or so years..
Its actually a good bargain.. if nothing else they can be cannibalized for spare parts.

thats exactly whats going to happen after they are used for flood relief

Simultaneously with acquisition of Mirage IIIs Pakistan purchased 35 Alouette III helicopters and used them in the Indo-Pak War of 1971, mainly for liaison and VIP-transport. Two, deployed in East Pakistan, were shot down in the war.

The reason they are being used or gifted is because they have got a service ceiling of 10,500 ft. Now if that isnt an advantage for casevac, S&R missions in the high mountainous regions, then what is?

Its good to have a helicopter which has been in Pakistan for more then 40 years and all three services use it. Its the main SAR helo of PAF. All three services have their own (ironically) allouette overhaul facility. So even if the airframes are old, they may undergo a kind of refurbishment and refitment here. even engines and transmission gearboxes may be overhauled here.
Allouette specializes in high altitude flying operations. its a great addition for Army to be engaged in flying in FATA, Kashmir and Northern area.

if its free should be welcomed . we have no other option. because we are not in position to buy new ones. and we need them badly as situation in pakistan is very critical due to flood.s

Swiss donate Alouette III helos to Pakistan for SAR ops

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is to receive 10 Aerospatiale SA 316 Alouette III utility helicopters from the Swiss government to help with the search-and-rescue (SAR) efforts that have been ongoing since much of the country was flooded following heavy rains in July.

The Swiss Ministry of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) made the announcement on 8 September that the helicopters, which were due to be retired by the end of the year, would be transferred to the PAF free of charge. They will now be delivered by PAF transport aircraft later in September, the DDPS said.

According to the DDPS, the PAF has been interested in purchasing these helicopters for some time now. It already operates 15 such aircraft that it first procured in the 1960s (the Pakistan Navy also operates about 10 Alouette IIIs that it began to purchase in the mid-1990s).

Under the terms of the agreement, the Pakistan authorities have provided written guarantees to the Swiss government that these helicopters will not be armed and will be used exclusively for SAR and other non-combat duties.

Separately, the US Department of Defense (DoD) announced on 8 September that two US Marine Corps (USMC) Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion heavy-lift helicopters had arrived at Pano Aqil Air Base, Pakistan, to complement the 26 US helicopters already flying in the country as part of the disaster relief operation. As well as the USMC CH-53Es, US Army Boeing CH-47 Chinook and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk types are also being utilised for SAR and disaster relief operations. Two additional CH-53Es are due to arrive soon, the DoD said.

As well as the 15 Alouette IIIs, the PAF also currently operates four Mil Mi-171 'Hip' helicopters and the navy three Westland Lynx (now retired) and 10 Alouette III helicopters. The army is the largest operator of helicopters in Pakistan and operates a fleet of 10 Bell 206B JetRangers, 30 Mil Mi-17 'Hips', 24 Aerospatiale SA 330 Pumas, 15 Aerospatiale SA 315 Lamas, 25 Bell 412s and five Agusta-Bell 205s.

The Pakistan Air Force is to take delivery of 10 surplus Swiss Alouette III utility helicopters for search-and-rescue operations.

You got it wrong. Pakistan getting them free for flood relief operation not buying. Pakistan needs choppers for flood relief works. Its an excellent light chopper.
