We spend 4% of GDP on defence while India only spends 2.4%. India's defence expenditure increased by 29% in that timeframe while ours increased by 73%. High defence expenditure is the main reason for our economic troubles.

That's because we can't afford to. Defence is the second largest expense after debt servicing. That's why articles like these are relegated to the pak army forum and not the economics forum. No one wants to discuss the economics of it.

Which service takes the largest chunk of budget in U.S? Oh yeah....military.

Same goes for Israel, India, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Korea, and you name it

Also Pakistan's military budget is very modest. The only reason it shows 4% of GDP is because our GDP got under-valued overnight because of dollar slide. Pakistan military's actual share of GDP is lower than 4% (Look at 2016 figures from SIPRI.

Incorrect.

Mandatory Spending on Social Security and Medicare, plus other social programs, take the majority share of the US budget. The military budget is a majority part of only the Discretionary Spending.

However, perhaps Pakistan needs to spend even more on its military given its situation, which is unique for every country, of course.
