Pakistan’s IT export crossed $1 billion mark for the first time in history

In order to develop proper IT industry, we need multiple DR locations. IMHO, we need new location/IT cities in or near Bahria Town Karachi, Hyderabad, Peshawar, Mianwali, Quetta, Pindi/Islamabad, etc.

Our short term goal should be to cross 10 billon in next 3 years and 50 billon in 10 years. We need investment in video gaming industry, virtually reality apps/programs.

Pakistan’s IT export has achieved a new milestone by crossing the mark of $1 billion for the first time ever in the history of Pakistan.

According to the data published by State Bank of Pakistan, exports of IT and IT-related services have reached to $1.067 billion in the financial year 2017-18, which was recorded $939 million in the financial year 2016-17. This shows a double-digit growth of 13%.

Overall Export rises to $3 billion
This is the second consecutive time that the IT industry has reached a record. The country also achieved the highest value of IT payment in the previous financial year 2016-17. Moreover, the IT exports are considered three times more than the data updated by the Central bank which means the overall number reached $3 billion in the current year 2017-18. The difference is due to the fact that the export revenue is highlighted in various other sectors such as financial, automobile, and health sectors.

Furthermore, as we all know Pakistan has a huge number of freelancers and the payment comes under overseas remittances, which again causes a misreporting of export numbers. Besides, there are certain local companies functioning through other countries but their products and services are delivered through Pakistan.

Factors behind the high Export rate
Export of IT and IT-enabled services increased mainly due to the increasing demand for Pakistan’s products and services in the exporting countries, which have gradually improved in recent months. Moreover, the business of large companies has improved because many foreign customers visit Pakistan because of the better security image, said Barkan Saeed Chairman Pakistan Association of Software Houses (P@SHA).

Pakistan’s exports of IT and IT-enabled services have the main market in the US (by 60 percent), followed by European countries with a 38 percent share, and then, Middle East countries.

Government’s Incentives to IT sector
The government realizes that IT plays an important role in providing a favorable environment for the growth of the IT industry through infrastructure and HR development. The government has the vision to increase the export of this sector to $5 billion per year until 2020, which is likely to be achievable as respective authorities have taken some IT sector friendly steps:

The government has approved the following incentives for the IT sector, aimed at increasing its exports

Zero income tax on IT exports until June 2025.
5% cash remuneration on IT exports, comparable with rewards for other sectors such as textiles, leather and sports.
5% turnover tax from ITeS within the federal territories.
Setting up special economic zones (SEZs) for the technical sector defined by the BOI and MoitT.
Access to commercial bank financing at preferential rates.
Moreover, a number of IT parks are being developed in the country along with the ongoing expansion of broadband services in different cities to make the ecosystem attractive and lucrative for IT companies, entrepreneurs, and start-ups.

The expansion of broadband services across the country has helped to increase IT exports in the space of freelancers, as many freelancers from Pakistan can now provide services to the international client which will ultimately boost the IT and export sector of Pakistan.

This such a big industry that it has no limits setting any target will be too low. The expansion in this industry is beyond imagination.

For counties like, india, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Mexico, Eastern European countries but not for us. We have incompleted people managing one of the most lucrative industries. Government must invest in IT city close to Bahria Towns because those places are very secure and better developed.
All you need is a building, electricity, equipment, fast internet service and bunch of programmers.

.
In Punjab, Lahore is the only place that actually has proper IT industry....Sadly, it never got expanded enough to other regions and Punjab is big with a big population!
Strange, i have not heard of any IT services from your country. Any big development houses?

PayPal comes or not is a different story but why are these bank discriminating a export potential in Pakistan. No industry is Pakistan grew as fast as it. These banks should be brought to account asap.
Solution is dedicated cheap payment system
Govt has to move in to do so

.
Bring paypal, ebay, amazon in Pakistan and you will have your next cpec without loans.

I heard the banks have lobbied with the previous governments to prevent these companies from entering Pakistan as right now payments go through them and earn a cut from it.

That is not true. Previous govt did try to bring paypal but Paypal is not ready to come in Pakistan although we have now good online banking system. Paypal is already started their operation in Bangladesh so with this govt we can hope Paypal may come in Pakistan if we work hard on their policies to be implemented in pakistan.

It is a good sign that your IT companies are looking beyond Pakistan for their profits.

Pakistan and India don't have a locally developed OS like the QNX Neutrino ( which I would say is the best commercial OS there is ).

Most banks in cities don't give accounts to poor students and they suffer because of having much greater skills

Why??

.
Well most banks don't allow freelancers to open a bank account either. Government should actually try and bring PayPal to Pakistan, that will make a freelancer's life a lot easier.
On the spot. i tried to open bank account as freelancer. Every bank refused. then i used my brothers account for transactions.

Get a Payoneer card, it only works in SC and MCB ATMs these days, but you will able to send payment requests to clients directly. Also simply forge a job letter, ask any of your friends or your brother to provide you with a letter head from the firms they work in and fill it in with your details. Banks don't call to confirm, its just a formality. Back in 2010 I did so as Bank itself told me to do that.

Or you can go with accounts like Mezaan's Aasan account, that can be opened with just the ID card. But keep in mind, the turnover limit is 500k(this includes both incoming and outgoing) per month. And it is not a great option for foreign remittances either.
