Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Friday insisted that Pakistan was heading in the "right direction" and that the country's economy will be "far better" by August 2022.
Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Chaudhry said a phase was being commenced in Pakistan in which the social protection programmes will take effect, paving the way for improvement of the overall economic situation of the country.

He informed that the PTI-led government had to return $55 billion in its next two years in debt payment, adding that a sum of $32bn had already been paid under debts in the last three years.
"We are paying the price for the legacy left by Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif," the minister said, in reference to the last two governments of the PPP and PML-N.

Dispelling the impression given by the opposition about the country failing at the economic front, Chaudhry said Shehbaz Sharif and other opposition leaders should not worry about the country as "it is heading in the right direction, and people are witnessing it".

'Our politics, defence and economy are all stable'

The minister stressed that Pakistan's politics, defence and economy were all quite stable. He said the national economy was growing at five per cent and it will further stabilise in time to come.

"Also, take an example of the coronavirus pandemic as such calamities occur once in 100 years and Pakistan's strategy to tackle it is being praised worldwide," he added.

'LHC must move to bring Nawaz back'

Chaudhry, while continuing with his criticism of rival parties, said the opposition leaders were all panicked after the government expressed its intent to bring Nawaz Sharif back to Pakistan. "We want the Lahore High Court to move on his case and Nawaz should be brought back at the earliest," he said.

He added that the government also wanted that cases involving Shehbaz Sharif should be taken up on a day-to-day basis. The minister stonewalled a query when asked about the political implications of the "most important" appointment the prime minister was set to make in 2022 and wrapped his answer by succinctly saying "for God's sake".

'Pakistan's films will now tell its story to the world'

The minister, while highlighting the importance of the film and drama industry, rued that the country had not been able to utilise the potential of the vital industry for its image-building. "Our stories have to be told through films and the way we ended our film industry was really unfortunate. We will now revive the medium to tell the story of Pakistan to the world."

'Dollar depreciated after the introduction of finance bill'

Chaudhry said he was pleased that the dollar depreciated against the rupee after the introduction of the Finance (Supplementary) Bill 2021 in the National Assembly on Thursday. "This inflation cycle will break in three to four months, while the prices of vegetables will also decline in a couple of months," he added. The information minister said Pakistan would have gone bankrupt had Imran not been the prime minister of the country.

"If Pakistan is floating today, it's because of Imran Khan and the PTI's economic team," claimed the minister. He said the system through which Pakistan had been governed for the past several years was no more in practice. "Now, for the first time, a people-centric government is working in Pakistan".

Doubt it
Inflation will inevitably lead to fiscal tightening and less depend

The energy cost will not come down till dasu bhasha & munda are on roll and rupee will not stablize till exports gain traction
Yes the country will grow around 5% and will not have a another crash like it has periodically but thats not enough

IK team has failed to do fast transormation in education primary/technical, civil law & revenue generation/taxation/digitalization

Apart from health card and stabalization most promises remain unfilled

Hence we need khata hey tu lagata be hey to make things a bigger challenege

4 decades of mismanagement cannot be fixed in 5 years. Let alone 3. I hope and pray that this current govt completes its term and is given another one. “Khata hey tu legate be hey” is the ultimate crazy statement….can we imagine any civilized nation of educated people saying “yeah he steals but he also gives us some scraps”. That’s not how nations with honor and power think or behave.

It is so important IK gets a 2nd term to build on the work being done. If Pakistan gets uninterrupted corruption free governance for the majority of this decade then many faces in politics in other parties will change as corruption finishes and attitudes shift. Better quality people will rise to the top who will be selfless and honest with their people.

Also, another IK win maybe crucial to retaining the confidence in Overseas Pakistani community to invest in and/or increase remittances to Pakistan.

It's good to be positive and we do sincerely hope that 2022 will be a turnaround for Pakistan economically. But seeing the past track records of our PTI govt will take it with a pinch of salt. Our PTI friends have been repeating the positivity rhetoric consecutively for NINE years in KPK and FOUR years in the centre, just last year our PM gave us super hope.

Yeah, just keep kicking the can down the road while causing irreversible economic damage at the same time.

Keep blaming the previous Governments for PTI's incompetence because thats what you came to power for.

Keep whinning about loan repayments of around $10 billion annually and don't let the Shaikh Chillis realise that the federal budget for 2020-2021 alone was $55 billion.

Nation is being told that china has corruption and it develope and that corruption is okay as long as everyone does it..
Nothing can be far from truth but most of the people are sold on it..

People have been sold on worse things like slavery where they would make them work and throw them pieces in the end

The nation has been broken..all most everyone alive was either born under current lords(sharifs/bhuttos) or grew up under them
(Sharifs have been in power for 40 years so everyone under 60)
Hence why we love him

I agree its unfair to blame prior govt for export failure
1-PTI should have tripled the exports to 60b$ in 3 years..increasing it to 30b$ isnt enough(from22b$)
2- agree for expensive capacity payments and huge 2t circular debt PTI should have scrapped the old deals and pay penalties like the reko diq(5b$) and carthay/turkey project(which was later wrote off by erdogen)
We could have done the same with IPPs
Just defaulted..
3- also agree with no tax reforms, PTI should have done tax reforms
4- also why no projects for cheap power like daus bhasha and munda completed yet in 3years.china build those in few months

Since the above i think we need to give chance to maryum nawaz

A relatively quick turn around is possible
If

1-China and local IPPs agree to renew cost(govt IPPs already signed but cant be privitized now due to low return & now are debt liability)

2- govt is able to introduce and enforce salw tax on retail not bowing to commerace pressure in punjab & karachi

3-exports and remittence continue to grow at same pace they have recently

Covid has disrupted the supply chain globally, Pakistan is no exception and inflation is all over the world. We need to understand the global economic situations, it is worst. PTI in first term under harsh global economy doing reasonably well.
