Pakistan's economic future

Old thread I know but I just wanted to state my view regarding the economy of Pakistan.

As anyone who has access to academic databases and has done research in this area knows that Pakistan imports more then it exports (refer to Asad, H.S. 1997. An appraisal of new trade policy. Business Source Complete, Economic Review, Vol 28, Issue 7.). This trade deficiency is a fact since it joined the WTO in 1995. My belief is that Pakistan has become victim to the negative aspects of globalization which is why the nation is hurting and going through periods of calm and unrest.

Since it is already a member of the WTO the best course of action for Pakistan now (to prevent it from becoming another Haiti in the future) is for it to invest massively in the domestic production of basic resources (food and raw materials), once the trade deficiency is stabilized growth and wealth development can become a reality which will in turn help quell unrest and attract more foreign investment into Pakistan.

Pakistan has great potential no doubt, just needs a good leader now :-)
