What's new

Pakistan's current account deficit nosedives 76pc to $50m in February 2021

Recent increase in exports only started around Sep-Nov 2020. Trying to analyze month to month data, is like splitting hair particularly when USD is still hovering around PKR 156.

Wait till end to 2022 to see a clearer trend in exports & general manufacturing in Pakistan. PKR should stage a clear recovery in exchange rate by the end of 2022 if economy is on right track.

All these efforts are bullshit because in 2023 punjab greatest leader shareefs will take power with the help of people of punjab and military again and will continue what they are good at. It is a game that has been played since 1985 by the military bearucracy and shareefs clan and they are fooling nation. If people of punjab will vote again to this party then this country should be divided into 4 to 6 countries. Why rest of the country suffer because of this love triangle?

If Pakistan get stability with relatively clean government the economy will grow to one trillion dollar size within 15 to 20 years. In my opinion 100% clean election is not necessary neither 100% corruption free rather 100% stability is absolute must. So I hope deep state is mindful of this, but the problem is the Pakistan establishment is either sleeping or busy running but there should be a middle ground like keep over sight to keep the government in line but do not over influence to take part in day to day running.

Just for my knowledge... Why can't you have a surplus and growth??
You can look at china

But traditionally pakistan has relied on infrastructure and services/consumption for growth..consumption means more imports (or you will have inflation)

More imports mean more CAD

So unless u r a manufacturing power house and heavily surplus any consumption based growth will lead to deficit which is fine as long as you can manage it.
So unless we fix our manfacturing cosumptiom based growth will lead to bust

Manfacturing takes decades of policy and hardwork
Noone can fix it in a year or 3-5 years

Pakistan is moving in right direction

Can the awaam be patient enough to allow reforms to continue?

Many of us said this from the beginning - major structural issues will require painful measures in the short to medium term.

One big issue is that negative role of the media, that plays a big role in molding views.
No since the govt was very weak to begin with.

PTI wasnt popular in 2018 and wont be in 2023 either
It won in 2018 due to anomaly in karachi and south electables jumping into PTI ship

If both these reverse which is highly likely PTI performance will be close to 2013

The irony is that the vocal awaam here aren't even the poor (because the poor don't have a voice), it's the class that benefitted from public sector jobs, the import heavy culture, etc.

If we empower the actual poor of this country, I think the opinions will change quite drastically (not saying they'd be pro-IK, but I don't think they're pro-PML/PPP either).

Hence why PPPP and PMLN think its "selected"
They did a good job painting them as incompetent enough to fix the problems caused by PPPP and PMLN. So the new idea is asked the people who created the mess to fix the mess.

Exactly
The poor actually either dont vote or dont know

Its been the middle educated class that has enjoyed by squeezing the poor..

Central punjab which is house more educated population then all of pakistan combined twice over voted 65% in favour of PMLN

one more term of IK is must at the least.

Id say atleast 3 more after this term is up. After another term as PM, constitution should be changed for a presidential system and he should serve as president for a minimum 2 terms. By then a whole new cadre of leaders can develop, learn and take charge. People like Hammad Azar (Finance minister) , Shireen mazari (Defence minister), Zulfi Bukhari, and Asad Umar are the future but they need time to learn the in and outs of governance.
