ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s cabinet has given the go-ahead for negotiating a long-term defence agreement with China, according to documents available with The Express Tribune. The approval was given in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on July 15, 2016 at the Governor House in Lahore soon after his return from London.

The cabinet considered the summary to initiate negotiations on a draft agreement between Pakistan and China on a long-term strategic framework agreement for enhancing defence and security cooperation in diversified fields. The cabinet held detailed discussions on the proposed agreement before giving the nod of approval.

Five CPEC projects face the axe

The cabinet was informed that the draft agreement was based on principles of mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, non-integration and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality and cooperation for mutual benefits, and peaceful coexistence for strategic gains in defence and security, including arms and technology transfers.

The cabinet was informed that input from ministries of foreign affairs, interior and defence production as well as the Joint Staff Headquarters had been obtained and incorporated in the draft agreement which was subsequently vetted by the law and justice division.

In April 2015 when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Pakistan, the two countries agreed that their relationship had acquired greater strategic significance against the backdrop of complex and changing international and regional situations. They agreed to elevate the Pakistan-China relationship to the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.

Saturday’s disclosure came less than a week after the United States signed an agreement with Pakistan’s archrival India governing the use of each other’s land, air and naval bases for repair and resupply, a step towardsZ building defence ties as they sought to counter the growing maritime assertiveness of China.

Pakistan called the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement between the US and India as an agreement between the two sovereign states and hoped it would contribute to peace and stability. “Pakistan would like to see that such arrangements do not contribute to polarising the region by disturbing the strategic balance in South Asia and escalating the arms buildup,” Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria told a news briefing on Thursday.

CPEC: Perils ahead for Pakistan

In 2011, the then prime minister, Yousaf Raza Gilani, expressed a desire to sign a defence deal with China during a trip to Beijing. At the time, the Chinese leadership advised Pakistan against such an agreement fearing that it might create a strain in Islamabad’s and Beijing’s relations with both Washington and New Delhi.

However, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry recently informed the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence that Pakistan’s growing strategic partnership with China was one of the main reasons behind the current strain in its ties with the United States. The United States was probably upset with the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, according to him.

I m not against china but alliance such as these will cause no future reconcillation with US anf INdia. Cuz such alliances come with some string attached

Ghawat ul Hind is not about Pakistan Vs India. It's about Muslims Vs. Hindustan.

I have heard that Pakistan will get a thrashing by Hindustan in the beginning, so much so that Pakistan will almost cease to exist (I mean Hindustan capturing most of the Pakistani territory). Once Muslims will be killed in large numbers in Pakistan, ummah will not be able to ignore it and Muslim armies in large numbers will come from all over the world, including Arabs, Persians, Turks and Afghans etc. They will be helped by Mongols from North to push back the Hind army till Calcutta. That will be the time of Dajjal (Anti-Christ) emergence from Iran.
What Muslim arimes are you talking in muslims world for now capable muslims who can fight is turkey and Pakistan and maybe egypt
Arabs who cant live without Air Con will fight for Pakistanis you must be joking
Iran fighting with india for Pakistan Joke of the day
Unless Pakistan , iran and turkey join together to form a similar allience which includes china and russia in it
Mongols why will they fight with india ?
Biggest help can come turkey and egypt middle east can provide support with oil, money and materials

I dont the know hadit so i wont say anything about it
But if we do about haddit few points
Mongols will attack that already has happened in current for near future i dont see that happening
2 About Pakistan lossing to india East Pakistan
Now for dajjal some sochalrs says its a system some say hes a man so i dont know as for dajjal some say he will be from middle east i think jordan so its just a guess game for any one of us Allah and his beloved Prophet ( Peace.Be.Upon.Him) knows best

As much as I like Pak China friendship and all, imho we should maintain some sovereignty. Relationship should be on equal footing as China has probably more to gain than Pakistan.

.
BTW its all depend on Chinese response in return. I personally don't think China will ever sign any pact with Pakistan same like US-IND did.
First you people invited US army in your region , after so much mess you have given invitation to Chinese army . God bless Pakistan!

Neither will the security pact between India and the US cause a reconciliation with China and Pakistan. Reconciliation is a two way street, but we are heading towards full scale confrontation. This was always on the cards. Better make most of it.

Unfortunately for you, you are gravely mistaken. China has a lot at stake after CPEC and even long before that. Pakistan will work very closely with China in securing our assets. China Pakistan security pact was in the making way before India US pact. You will have to deal with it.

Tell me when it will get real.
BTW we are always prepared for two front. But Pakistan and china has to face three front. :azn:

No need relations with YOU S and China

The pact between us and India is 90 percent favourable to us than India

Because it is US who needs land and bases

What india gain using logistics of C 5 galaxy which india itself has it

Top of it pact between China and pakistan is favourable 50 percent of balance to both nations as we can use Chinese naval air arsenal and logistics unlimitedly top of it we can fight india from western borders from Chinese bases as well

USA made fool of india and modi made mockery of Indian democracy india now not has sovereignity of its border now usa bring havoc to Indian land as well

For your information, this is happening already. Pakistan's cabinet has given approval of such pact which means proposal was already there and now discussion on modalities would start.

USA has a played a game with China by beefing Indian defence capabilities up and now China can play the same game with India by beefing Pakistan offensive capabilities. India knows it cannot fight and win a two-front war with Pakistan and China simultaneously and that is fortunately India's upcoming fate.

You fight with once country, you loose in the hand of another.

If being the GF can give India edge militarily and economically then so be it. India needs technology and investment and uncle Sam can provide that. You can troll but the fact is that Inspite of being in US camp Pakistan failed to bring investment and jobs in Pakistan. Even the Chinese have huge mobile phone manufacturing plants in India. Huawei has RnD in India. What have you got being the GF of two super power BFs. Few missiles and aircrafts ?
