Pakistan's Al Khalid Tank Gets Updated

Pakistan's Al Khalid Tank, widely considered one of the most competent Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) in the global arms market, has received an update, according to GrandeStrategy sources. This new version of Al-Khalid is said to be ready for production, although orders are yet to be placed for production to begin. The Al Khalid II is said to have a new armor that has been tested to defeat all known 120mm and 125mm rounds. This "special" armor is a major technological breakthrough for Pakistan. The tank has received a new transmission and revised electronic turret control.

The Al Khalid II has a new Integrated Battle Management System (IBMS) and active threat-protection system, the latter being an upgrade from the passive system in the earlier model. The tank is now perhaps the most heavily weaponized per tonnage of any tank, being able to carry 49 125mm rounds, 1,500 12.7mm and 7,100 7.62mm rounds.

Rumors suggest that Saudi Arabia is ready to procure the Al Khalid II but not going through with the deal because of differences with the political administration in Pakistan. Rumors also indicate that these relate to the kickbacks demanded by Pakistan's infamously corrupt President Asif Zardari, nicknamed "Mr.10%".

it is the maturity of the system and reliability on supplier!
Pakistan have no previous experience in arms export deals. this is something that hit back at most of the deals! you see i wont be willing to buy my frontline weaponary from a country whose weapoary is not mature and battle tested. this does not by any means that the system lacks in performance!
pakistan is now standing on the first step of the road that eventually leads to a gloabal arms player. we have the first of our indegenious products in every feild, now its the time to market them, i am talking about the AlKhalid, JF17 and many more products. once people will taste the performance of these platforms and that to comming on very low prices then this will surely boast our image as an international arms exporter.
non the less, what is more important for me is that by the grace of almighty Allah! pakistan is now capable to produce some of the worlds finest weapons, be it guns or tanks, planes or ships!
i guess you understand what i mean to say, it is just a matter of time now, once a few products are there in the export market i hope then the things will work wonders for Pakistan.

Al-Khalid is a very good tank in the price range. The Saudi's won't buy it because Pakistan Government has no in-built system in its financial set-up to cater for huge bribes that are generally incorporated in per tank price and to be paid to the Saudi Defense Minister or his chosen Prince's etc. When the french sell Leclerc to the Saudi's they pay huge bribes, when the Americans sell Abrams they pay huge bribes to the Saudi's as well. Pakistan unfortunately does not have a similar system because HIT is Government owned and the maximum commission that Chairman HIT can allow (with the blessing of Ministry of Finance) is 30% (which is peanuts compared to the 80% - 120% bribes generally demanded by the Saudis).

An Al-Khalid installed with western hardware is like the Robocop of Warfare! But to build a Robocop upto western standards or Saudi standards, HIT needs a contract with the customer, cash injection in advance to buy and integrate the systems, test them and then sell them. No one is willing to trust HIT to do that at this time and that includes the Saudis

.
I think HIT needs to start up the manufacturing of AK-IIs as PA is need of. I hope that HIT will produce about 1100 in coming 5 years. If not wrong then PA needs a total of 3000 MBTs.
