In the 15 odd metros in India, only 2 have the 3rd supply rail , rest are all with overhead wires.
Probably that confused them.
Is the opening of the Lahore metro being received with excitement in Pakistan or is the negative and indifferent sentiment present on this site reflected their too ?
In India railfaning is a big hobby and people cover trains extensively.
Being Pakistan's first electric train, sone amount of interest should be expected.

Yes true, Railways is big in India, not so in Pakistan, was reading only 5% of the population uses Railway as transportation, the normal PR trains.

This Lahore Orange Line Metro was a big thing initially, lost the interest maybe due to delays. Yesterday was a soft inauguration and real public response can be seen from today/tomorrow, not many people are excited as this is not like a HSR train like in Japan and China...

If you go to the YouTube videos of the second video here at the top, you will find the railfaning vids, there are a number of vloggers here doing railway videos, many are really good.

Also this orange line METRO passes through the old area/low income area of Lahore and rest of the Lahore people are not much bothered, it seems...

I will repeat, Pakistanis will love their metro. Metro has transformed transport in a busy city like delhi.
Imran should have shelved politics and inaugurated this train.

Delhi Metro network is quite extensive with about 350 kms of track and increasing...now the newer corridors for Lahore Metro looks an uphill task with financial constraints.

But still the Delhi metro passenger total must be low, around 10% of the total or less...

Rawalpindi/Islamabad BRTS inaugurated some years ago is running on full capacity as public transport was poor between Rwp and Isb...and people ended up paying 400-500 Rs...for taxis from Rwp-Isb, this was a big relief for the students, common people.

Lacs of people commute to Islamabad from Rawalpindi daily as rents/property rates are very high in Islamabad so they live in Rawalpindi and commute to Islamabad daily which is about 27 kms away...at the most.

LAHORE, Pakistan, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's first ever metro train service, the Orange Line, started its commercial operation Sunday in the country's historical city of Lahore, the capital city of Punjab province, opening a new stage for the South Asian country in the public transportation sector.

As an early harvest project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Orange Line was constructed by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. and China North Industries Corporation and was operated by Guangzhou Metro Group, Norinco International and Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service.

During the five years of construction, the Orange Line created over 7,000 jobs for locals and in the operation and maintenance period, it will create 2,000 employment for locals.

Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar told the ceremony of the commercial operation held here on Sunday that the provincial government of Punjab is grateful to China for its unprecedented support for the completion of the state of the art mass transit project, adding that the friendship between the two countries will strengthen with the completion of metro train system under the CPEC.

He said that the Orange Line is the first eco-friendly mass transit project and will provide world-class travel facilities to the people of Lahore.

It will lead to green GDP growth, further promote urban development and modernity of the Pakistani eastern megacity and increase economic activities, he added.

Addressing the ceremony, Long Dingbin, Chinese consul general in Lahore, said that the Orange Line is another fruitful achievement of the CPEC and it will greatly improve the traffic conditions in Lahore and become a new landmark of the city.

He added that the launching of the Orange Line will greatly improve the traffic conditions in Lahore.

The Orange Line covers a total of 27 km distance and has 26 stations including 24 elevated stops and two underground stations.

Some 27 sets of energy-saving electric trains, each comprising five fully air-conditioned wagons, with the operating speed of 80 km per hour, will provide a comfortable, secure and economical traveling facility to 250,000 passengers daily. Enditem

This train would have started many years ago. PTI and EX justice Saqib Nisar were the main culprits of delaying so for long. Thanks for Chinese support in this and other projects. We as a nation need to rethink ourselves where we are heading in the political confrontation? Still that fight is on with more and more disintegration. No one is paying attention to address it.

Ya thought the same. I was hoping to see plush areas given PDF keeps telling me that people are quite rich. But it doesn't seem that way in this video. May be this metro is travelling through low end areas of Lahore. I was expecting something similar to Delhi.

We'd rather eat donkey biryani than be treated like donkeys in our own city. Someone can learn a thing or two from lahore.

The bus service looks pretty good with heavy usage. I believe it was nawaz Sharif who initiated this .
So why so much dislike for him , he seems to be giving actual useful facilities to ordinary Pakistanis ? I believe he was responsible for the excellent motorways in Pakistan with daewoo in the 90s. He might be corrupt but Pakistan seems to get pretty good facilities with him incharge.
Let's face it 150 jf17s at 30 crore a pop , equals 4500 cr and might find no use before being scrapped. India is wary of the f16s , jf17 just make up the numbers. The bus and motorways seem to be a much sweeter use of scarce funds.
