I was dumb-founded when I read Arjun tank using rifled bore when even Britishers are converting their old Challengers to smooth-bore; but fair enough one is talking about Indians & HAL Tejas designers
AK-1 does have active protection system imported from Ukraine and integrated in HIT and it is now a standard fit on AK-1 by the name of VARTA (guards). Other changes are...
Sagem Matis TI (3rd Gen)
Turret control all electric instead of semi-electric previously
Increased ammunition to 49 rounds (main gun)
new ballistic computer with new sensors
Second Generation IBMS (indigenous)
Indigenous ERA along with composite armor (750 mm turret thickness without ERA) more than 1100 mm with ERA
Main gun improved based on Ukrainian KBA 125 series previously, now completely modified and built in HIT facility with increased accuracy, barrel life and range.
Improved suspension with hydraulic assistance more than previous version.
Much higher automation and protection for crew, new NBC developed indigenously, tracks, thicker side skirts. Better cooling for crew comfort, also a new DU shell developed based on French and Korean shells with higher penetrations at POF.
Improved autoloader with electric control.
I would say its at least twice as lethal as the previous AK.
Regards
Sir I am afraid you are misinformed; this shows that Indians are not capable enough to produces domestically their own self-stabilising rounds.rifled guns can fire more types of rounds. hence it turns Arjun into a multi capability platform.

The Challenger Lethality Improvement Programme (CLIP) is a programme to replace the current L30A1 rifled gun with the 120 mm Rheinmetall L55 smoothbore gun currently used in the Leopard 2A6. The use of a smoothbore weapon allows Challenger 2 to use NATO standard ammunition developed in Germany and the US. This includes tungsten-based kinetic energy penetrators, which do not have the same political and environmental objections as depleted uranium rounds. The production lines for rifled 120 mm ammunition in the UK have been closed for some years, so existing stocks of ammunition for the L30A1 are finite

Rifling only was necessary to stabilise the trajectory of warhead but times change & the fins/electronics employed within the structure of projectile is more than enough to stabilise it in its trajectory; so no rifling is necessary nowadays provided you are capable enough to produce modern rounds which Pakistan already has!!
^^^^
Self Stabilization's price > dumb round.
time to produce self stab > dumb round
some times, it is just good to produce a lot of cheap stuff very quickly and give it a good old yank.
Point in case, Shermin VS German Leopards.
