In the video the people of the village have themselves rejected this criterion and have instead put 10th grade+ as the standard for literacy.

The OP beat me in posting this--I saw this video linked from a Pakistani FB friend's page.

Indeed the video shows a vibrant village with high literacy, no crimes, high women participation, and general emphasis on cleanliness...

Perhaps even more interesting is that the villagers refuse to allow outsiders to move-in and buy properties--even if the offer is high. They have erected invisible walls around them against, what they perceive, society's corrupting influence.

Now I want to watch Joachim Phoenix's 'The Village' again

just wanted the same things for their daughters and their sons
but most importantly they did it on their own terms didn't consider coeducation a part of their culture so they made separate schools
