I had no idea that pakistan gave the most troops to the UN. I thought it might be another country like China or India or even the US but I guess the US is too busy being a "unilateral" invader while Pakistan serves as the real "global policeman". :coffee:
UN medals for Pakistani military men

By Our Correspondent

UNITED NATIONS, March 26: A contingent of 1,023 Pakistani soldiers and nine military observers were decorated with the United Nations peace-keeping medal at a ceremony in Cote d’Ivoire Bouake, says a UN press statement issued here on Wednesday.

The ceremony held at the airfield part of the city was chaired by the Force Commander of the United Nations Operation in Cote d’Ivoire (UNOCI), Maj-Gen Fernand Marcel Amoussou.

The Pakistani contingent Commander and Commander of Sector East of UNOCI, Brig-Gen Tariq Javed, in his address said that there had been a Pakistani military presence in Ivory Coast since 2004 serving in perfect harmony with the local population.

Maj-Gen Amoussou thanked the people of Bouake for their support for UN units deployed in the city and appreciated the work done by the Pakistani contingent and its outstanding contribution for the implementation of UN mandate.

Pakistan is the world’s largest contributor of uniformed personnel to UN peace-keeping operations. It currently has more than 10,600 military and police personnel serving in 13 missions.

It is actually Pakistan, India and Bangladesh who have about 10 000 soldiers each in service for UN. Its like a sub-continent competition i believe, but it serve the needing countries good.

Dont Pakistan and other countries receive som money for this? Or is this a "free" service to the UN paid by Pakistan?

AoA
Its not a free service and troops make very good money to be able to afford land back in their villages. One of the reasons why there are more soldiers from the sub continent.

So, it is the soldiers who makes the money and not the armed forces of Pakistan?

look at how much pakistan contributes to the UN when they have not been able to do anything for kashmir.

when we agreed with the WoT, we were promised to have more coverage on kasmir in the media. now that the US has different plans, that small glimpse of what is really happening in kasmir is fading away.

on top of that china is okay with india becoming a member of the security council. that's why we have no choice, but to become a superpower. no one will help us, not even china. that's why i tell muslims that we have no one else, but ourselves.

About UN troops contribution, I can speak about India.

It is great for the morale as also from the economic enhancement of the officers and troops.

A tenure with the UN changes the lifestyle since $ converted is big money!!

It is good for the country's image as also for the personnel, more so, the personnel.

And believe it or not, most of the tasks are easier than facing the situation on the LC (Line of Control) or in CI!!

It appears you understand nothing about war or international relationship!

Even if Pakistani army did not contribute a sausage for the UN, do you think that the Pakistani Army could have captured Kashmir?

If they could then are you suggesting that they are an useless lot having done fanny Adams in the last four wars?

Do you really feel that the Pakistani Armed forces are wasting the taxpayer's money?

It is ridiculous to inject the Moslem issue in everything as a 'solve all' magic word. Religion has nothing to do with worldly issues. Please understand that and sooner you do, thing swill work out.

Who i told you that Kashmir will be in the headlines?

Had a chat with Bush?

If so, who are you?

Quit acting as a know all and a chatter with Bush!

Come down to Mother Earth!

Quit blaming Pakistan and the govt.

Not too worry.

Your mates may have experience through cooperation.

I have experience too!! ;).

And I say they are good too.

That is why when Pakistan posters worry that the US will invade them, I tell them the Americans are not that foolhardy!!

There is nothing to fear more than fear itself!!

But that does not in anyway distort the discussion.
