I can across this article about a Pakistani tech startup called Tazah recieving seed funding. https://www.techjuice.pk/tazah-rece...n-to-accelerate-pakistans-agriculture-sector/

The funding is a non story, the real story is what these guys do.

- They're cutting out the middleman in agriculture and giving farmers direct access to vendors
- they're using other peoples warehouses and transport rather than their own
- they're also going to provide data analytics to farmers to help with supply/demand

The most important part, which is unwritten - is that they will break the chains of the food hoarders. I wanted out govt to provide this service, but some businessmen have come and decided to do it instead.

InshaAllah they will be a massive success.

This is what we need. Give the farmers their own land and cut out the Zamindars power.

Pakistanis need to get rid of the mentality that the government will do stuff for them. The government won't do sh*t. We have to do everything ourselves instead of waiting around and complaining all day.

I have worked closely with farmers and how middlemen especially the arthis manipulate them. Eliminating middlemen is a great idea but it is not very simple also most of the farmers don't know much about technology especially the small farmers (more than 80%) so I'm not sure how this will be successful

What would it take to educate the small farmers on the latest agricultural techniques. Having and implementing the latest agricultural techniques to maximize yields has been an important element of national power since ancient times, it was the only think Rome saved when it destroyed Carthage.

The best thing would be to end the babu culture from agriculture department and to some extent curtail the private sector. We also need to improve the quality of agri graduates that we are rapidly producing. We also need to strategize everything from a small farmer's perspective. My thesis is in accordance with that.

“Curtail the private sector”; in what way?

also can you define the nature of the “babu culture” when it comes to agriculture.

what do you suggest is lacking in the education of the agricultural students? Do we have any programs to send our agricultural students to China or Europe, where they can learn some of the latest methods?

I think they are smarter than people give them credit for. They can learn. It's not that complicated technology anyways.

9 out of 10 of these tech ventures will fizzle out. That is the scorecard for most ventures in the most advanced economies.

Gov is there to make laws not do sh*t.

Isn't this what Modi's government was doing when the farmers killed the bill?

Always better for a private company to provide these kinds of services government starts rotting after a while.

By curtailing the private sector, what I mean is that government should put some checks and balances in place, when it comes to what kind of products (especially fertilizer) they are pushing at farmers. Farmers instead of getting the fertility assessment of their soil, start buying different products thar usually don't bring uniform results.

Babu culture is what I call the behavior of agriculture officers in any district or Tehsil. They usually sit in their offices with one or two field visits for a photo session. Most of them aren't connected to people.

What lacking in our graduates is the ability to conduct research and get experience, especially at undergrad level. Most of them come out of universities with almost 0 knowledge of what's going on. At post graduate level, our research is mostly plagiarized or done in way just to pass the requirements for the degree. Students do go out of country but most of them are faculty members or they settle outside due to lack of opportunities in Pakistan.

This irks me so much about all our govt departments. None of these people seem to have any targets or any repercussions of not achieving targets.

Do we have agri-colleges in Pakistan. In the UK we have agricultural colleges which teach teenagers the basics of agriculture. Here is an example...
