What's new

Pakistani students can now get Canadian study permits processed in 20 days!

I wouldn't have cared too much about that, but I wished I atleast got my money's worth. The profs care more about their research then the students. They just kinda brush any issues that the students raise.

undergrad is mostly a scam these days....90% of the degrees are just not worth it at all.

I tell everyone, unless they get into STEM and have the drive to succeed in that field, stay the hell out of college...and instead go to a trade school and learn something useful and in demand with far less debt created on yourself.

Buddy's bro of mine is carpenter and is bringing in 6 figure pay check consistently each year (he is very hard smart worker too)....he barely paid a dime at trade school too.

Everyone should just be well aware where the actual jobs are in the end.

It makes no sense at all!!! Like what's up with these laws. Everyone should be the same, the natives belong to this country now too. They should be absorbed into the system, but they get paid for not going anything and they get paid more for breeding like rabbits. That's caused so many issues, like crime and unemployment. They dont work and all they do is go around and steal. I'm generalizing but unfortunately that's how the trends are here, in central Canada.

This is called free ride addiction and dependency....met with "oppressors" perpetual guilt complex. Its a toxic combination for both sides.

If its a good college and you make use of it, it can add lot of good stuff to your career. Trust me. But lot of ppl also fall by the wayside doing it too. Think law school, you need a certain drive and aptitude for it....and to make use of it.

It just depends, I wouldnt suggest it for most people...and definitely its likely not worth it if its not a good branded school like Rotman....because you are better off using that time (and saving the money) learning it in the real world and applying yourself there....or if you are in STEM, it might be better just to do a regular masters. But contacts and rolodex is so key whatever you do after undergrad....be it job or further studies.

BTW that really sucks you are paying that much on rent. Damn.

In entire North America and especially USA, the education (including the higher education) has become something of a hospitality business. Meaning that you have a large number of degree programs that cater to what essentially can safely be called hobbies. Think anything with the word "Studies" attached to it : General Studies,Women's Study etc Or any of the arts program : theatre, music, puppetry (yes there are master and doctoral programs around it) etc.

Then there are programs which are centered around general working skills : business studies, communication etc.

Finally there are programs which are specific and specialized : Engineering, medical, science and maths.

Needless to say, avocations are hard to justify vocationally and generality is not exactly the nécessité du jour. So stick to programs that are indeed needed and one will be fine.

Since folks are talking Canada in this thread. I will also like point out one more thing. There are some interesting opportunities in French speaking part of Canada. So during your education, if you can put some effort in learning it, you may get opportunities that may be simply unavailable otherwise.

I have a friend who specializes in maintenance of very large heat pumps used in industrial applications. So am I. But he got the gig which paid THRICE! Why? The gig was near Montreal. His french paid and I missed it.

Personal attacks that's nice. There is no "we" it's only the Pakistani government. Also you seem very cut off from pakistani culture. Indians work those jobs because they dont have any issues, Pakistanis dont clean washrooms or work those types of jobs. Before you go around calling others an idiot you need to inform yourself.

Also what I am studying and what I am not is none of your concern. The fact is Canada isnt what it was a decade ago, so you can cry all you want. It's been on a steady decline

Calling idiot an idiot is the right thing to do. Pakistani government is no where to be found. We took this initiative and pushed Iqra Khalid and Salma to do what ever they could. It took three years of community pushing and inside pressure to bring about this change. If you don’t know something then it’s better to shut up.

As for Canada yes it’s tough market for those who are studying English literature, classic Greek and business . Either learn some in demand skill or study AI/coding..... HUGE demand for these topics.

Never generalise whole populations....

There are alot of odd jobs up north where you can cover your fees. I am seeing alot of Indian Sikh driving around in brand new BMWs up North. They are working full time at mcdonalds, wendys etc etc

Canada will soon be new Amritsar. It rains indians here, they keep dropping from the sky. I am sick of them, wherever they go they destroy the whole pay system.

They live like slums. 7 to 10 at one place.

I'm more interested in considering a migration to NZ or Canada.
Anyone know of any details?

You would have to be here to know what I'm talking about. It's an unfortunate fact

resorting to personal attacks, when merely discussing, speaks volumes about your communication skills. Thus there is no "we" as in "you" when it comes to things like this.

The only thing the pakistani community is good for is, tripping other Pakistanis and not showing them the right path. You will find this hurtful but that's the case, cupcake

Anything for microbiology? And ain't that the truth.

One of my former colleague and his fiance migrated to Canada a couple of months back. She went first for her masters and he was via PR. Within a week after he landed, got a job as IT systems analyst and the paycheck is about 68K Canadian per annum. I guess it's decent and she's also earning from part-time jobs.

Thats rich coming from another immigrant!

From what I have seen ALL economically poor immigrants coming from poor countries cut corners in more than one ways. Indians, Pakistan folks, Chinese, Sri Lankans you name it! Heck Chinese are usually the most hated because they also tend to be more unabashed about it. They think that to immigrate is their birthright and the host nation should bend backwards to accommodate them. I guess Indians donning turbans tend to be more visible as opposed to Iranians who try their best to blend in. But then, Pakistan folks are more "aware" of Indians around them.

I do report whenever I see violation of by-laws and building codes in terms of housing and accommodation. Being in HVAC business, I get to see innards of many homes or residential complexes. Recently I reported a certain Chinese-origin lady in my neighborhood who was running an illegal hostel for Chinese "students" or "student-workers" (https://www.nsnews.com/news/north-van-woman-who-ran-illegal-hostel-fined-5k-for-contempt-1.23778454). It became a shit-storm when the strata also jumped in. Last I heard, she was forced to sell her townhouse.

Yes I am an immigrant but all I am saying is there is too much indians than required. Too much. The Govt should have a quota system from each country. And the Indians usually come and violate work laws. They work more than the hours required. Its not bad to work but its bad to violate the law.

Well, I don't know what your status is in Canada, but one of the founding principle of "Canadian-ness" is that of fairness and equality. Each immigrant is an individual and it is not good to judge them purely based on their background. If we go that way then we should ban all Chinese because "they usually come to do money laundering" Or "to sell drugs". Or say Pakistan folks or Afghanistan folks because of "stereotypical terrorism". Will you like that? Will you like to be judged as a "potential terrorist" because you are a person of Pakistan origin? I don't know about you but I find this idea revolting. Believing that someone from India is a "illegal worker" or someone from China is "drug smuggler" or someone from Pakistan is "potential terrorist". I find such idea revolting. I and many other Canadians do have our own biases but I will hate to see them implemented in law.

I know our neighbors do or atleast proposed to do that. And believe me, it is revolting to hear that. Immigrants are a fact of Canadian life because we simply did not/do not have enough people to support the social welfare based Canadian society. There are many things I dislike or may be hate about Chinese for instance but then if this country starts throwing all of Chinese out, it will be hard to carry on. Similar things exist for each national origin.

I am not against Immigration , I am just saying that almost every Indian is violating the law which is not correct. And yes im continously judged by white canadians specially women for either being ugly coz im brown, or a potenitian terrorist for being a muslim or a women oppressor all that based on my skin color but i dont complain because I chose to come to this country nobody invited me.

People always judge each other on a personal level. What is really revolting is when that unfairness seeps into laws.

Masters is better option. Per semester fee is around 7000 cad could be more depending on univ. cost of room shared per month about 450 to 500 cad and then food about 200 to 300 . Diploma is good , it gives u the skill. Masters on the other hand is more like higher qualification but clears ur pathway for PR . IT is in huge demand so master or diploma will get u a job but the main goal is to acheive PR then do masters.
