Pakistani senior officials: will produce the fifth generation fighter

paf chief already clarify this
What clarifying that 5th gen jet for PAF will be TFXo_O look sir TFX is in initial phase of development first flight will be in 2022-2023 mass prduction will be started in 2028 we need 5th gen jet in 2023- 2025 time-frame because of PAK-FA inducted by IAF in that time-frame so there will be least chance to get TFX for PAF:disagree:

Probably, though how likely is it that they'll ever see the light of day?
It's like the Super-7. What were the chances of it ever seeing the light of day had it not been for the PAF selecting it for its own use? The PAF's next-generation fighter could be from those other Chinese designs.

While the FC-31 has come along, it's worth remembering that the PAF hasn't worked with Shenyang since the J-6 days, its comfort-zone is with Chengdu via the F-7P, F-7PG, JF-17 and, for a time, FC-20. The PAF could try working with CAC to come up with another next-generation fighter platform.

This doesn't contradict ACM Sohail Aman's call for supply-side independence either. This time around a higher proportion of the development work and manufacturing process could take place at PAC, much in the same vein as BAE Systems will be at TAI to work on the TFX.

i cant imagine cac designing a new bird for pakistan. sure you can argue they already did with the jf-17.
i would expect shenyang lobbying for the j-31 which would probably transfer of tech such as creating composite aero structures and probably provide the autoclave too. mind you i would have thought they would have gone for something more heavy weight with side bays (like the f22) this would require the j31/fc31 going in for a bulk up and ws10 series engines are being proven to be very reliable and could power it. or cac can just offer it.

If the PAF is willing and can pay for a specific request, i.e. a new fighter design, CAC will likely respond. I just wonder what the PAF would want out of its next-gen fighter - i.e. a twin-engine FC-31 or TFX-style design? Or a single-engine medium-weight platform ala F-35?

The Paf 5th gen is to be a strike fighter- essentially focusing on deep interdiction. As a secondary role it will be air dominance

One has to see the psyche of Pakistani forces, it is making sure India stays vulnerable; im a way a countrr ego to India's own ego.

well can they pay for it.
lets assume below oscar is correct and the next fighter is a air superiority fighter would you class the j31 as an air superiority fighter? no, its too small and does not have the range of the other birds like the su-30mki.
i would expect the j31 either getting side bays or a whole new fighter. or just the standard j-31.

Hi,

There is a remote chance that it could be a single engine aircraft---and possibly with one of the newer chinese engines--- the WS 15 or the WS 10.

So---the F35 dream might yet be alive---.

As per Chinese media Pakistan is working n stealth version of JF-17 even CG pictures are also posted online.
Their will be no Stealth version of JF-17 in distant or near future:disagree: because it totally different from JF-17 in the term of structural and mechanical integrity:p:

Pakistan producing 5th gen fighter... This must be joke of decade...
First you need to start with something small...but no, few people only know big talk.
Not alone sir but with JV with China just like we did for JF-17:p::p:

Pak China JV is one of the unique in the world. But Indian experience is very expensive for PAK FA in shape of billions of $ investment and now demanding to Russia for transfer of full scale technology of fifth generation.

The strike role could be possible with a single-engine design, though it would need to use the WS-10 or WS-15. It would just be an Eastern F-35. However, if the PAF is aiming for strike, then the FC-31 should be sufficient, especially since it is to have a total payload of 8,000 kg. The main question would be internal volume for fuel, no point in a hard-hitting fighter that's short-legged.

The FC-31 is just a little doubtful. unlike Chengdu , the shenyang group has not been pursuing the low observable avenue that much.
That being said, they tried to pitch it quite aggressively to the PAF. Our recommendations count a lot in many of the world's airforces.

As I mentioned before, there is one more design which was still in the pre protoype stages in China. However, right now the PAF is seeing beyond just aircrame and avionics for its own program. The aspiration are for at least 80% of th aircraft being homegrown
