Pakistani Rickshaws Get a New Design and Offers free WiFi

That is a bad design. Here it is why.

• Summer and Winter in Pakistan is extreme and you need protection from both cold and hot wind.
• Smoke and dust on the road demands a close cabin instead of open one.
• Seats are boxes, the designer haven't heard about ergonomics ever.
• No indicators on the front and sides? Do they need to reinvent the wheel after failures?
• Front lights are too high up o the front. They are meant to make your path visible, not faces of the pedestrians on the streets.
• Its design is aesthetics eccentric instead of purpose centric. Design is not how it look but how it works. You design to solve problem our and once you have a working solution - then you beautify it. When cosmatics are your primal design drive, you end up compromising on utility and usability aspects as it is visible here. If people like its face at first, they would end up hating it because it is not a problem solving solution.

This rickshaw is a failure in making.

Pakistani conventional Rickshaws are all set to be replaced to by newly designed rickshaws. Silver colored and oval shaped, this egg shaped vehicle is basically part of marketing campaign of Ufone. This campaign has been designed by 'Brand Activate', a Karachi based marketing agency that helps companies to activate their brand names through creative ideas. These rickshaws have been designed by Ascend Engineering at Mansoora, Lahore. These rickshaws surprisingly have 3g connections for Wifi enabled services along with GPSnavigation.

Campaign is yet to be launched officially and exact features and functions of this vehicle will be announced on the press meet event, meanwhile have a look at these pictures of new-rickshaw.

Looks nice ... but what is the cost of normal one and this ?
Buts it's too blunt to impress . It rather looks like something incomplete hybrid

Whats wrong with putting another wheel under this stupid thing and make it a taxi! I seriously don't get the point of focusing this much on these pathetic automobiles. What they should do is to make cars like Mehran cheap and use them instead.

These are nice Rickshaws but need some blinds for weather and privacy of customers. People have children and there is no protection from children falling from rickshaws since drivers dont drive carefully. When will they be painted in bright colors like a desi bride (dulhan) ? Look at buses in Pakistan they so ugly in multicolored designs.

Most Rickshas are open. I've seen some with some sort of clear plastic sheet which helps which could probably be something you can probably get made..

I agree seats are terrible, so are is the absence of front indicators and the positioning of the front light. I think a new design is important atleast it'll be something new.

But I'm also concerned about the rear window as well, if there isn't an option to lower it, it's going to create a lot of drag.

I hope they work out the kinks it's a great idea implementation needs to be worked on.

I think their main goal is low cost and advertisement

Thats is called truck art. Its disgusting. But its amarket and people are trained in doing that. Talented people from lower socio economic stratum who unfortunately couldn't get bright opportunities end up showing their talent here for making. a living. But even apart from that i have seen some artists praising it. I think its the horridest art. And there's literature done on it too. Atleast one perosn i saw in a documentary she was doing thesis on it.

The Prostate gland of many males will not survive this. In addition, a city like Karachi means that you will now definitely be robbed whenever you travel in these. The idea would have worked had they added some form of retracting blinds.

Those moaning about indicators should realize that those sort of things really dont matter in Pakistan; since a Rickshaw will never use them.

truck art is gettting press internationaly.. so not really bad. people like it.
