Pakistani Oscar-winning visual effects artist makes Karachi look good

While it is true that he was PART of the team (consisting of 100's of people) who worked on the visual effects and won the Oscar. It is completely beyond ridiculous to say that HE ALONE won the oscar.

Please answer the fact as to why his name is not listed on the academy's website OR why was he not on the stage to collect the award is he was, as people here are saying, the most important person on the team?

Everyone on the team is an Oscar winner for their combined effort, it would be quite ridiculous to have 200 people go on the stage to collect the award, so I presume they selected the 4 people who were in charge of the whole visual effect thing. Sort of like the face and leader of the group.

As for the pic, I can find many many many pictures where people are holding Oscars which they did not personally win.

What does this have to do with you, maybe you feel you are the rightful winner, I'll have a word with the committee.

.
Let me give an example.

Here we see Rubina Ali holding the best film Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire.

Do I assume from the photo that Rubina Ali herself won the Oscar? HELL NO
Was she part of the whole group which won the award? HELL YES
But the award as a whole belongs not to Rubina but will stay with the director/producer

Similarly, Did Mir Ali alone won the oscar? HELL NO
Was he part of the group that won the award? YES
But the award as a whole belongs to those 4 people listed and they will be forever known as the winner.

Thats just how it works. When people win, for example say, the best music for the film, only the music director is awarded and acknowledged. Not the whole orchestra!

RAFI - What does this have to do with you, maybe you feel you are the rightful winner, I'll have a word with the committee.

If you have any thing constructive to say of my post, then go ahead, but do not waste my time on worthless drivel. I posted facts and logical points, prove them wrong if you think you are right.

Of course this has nothing to do with me, nor has it anything to do with you either. I am just correcting other people.

No one in this thread is saying he alone won an Oscar. But did he win an Oscar? Yes he did.

Go through the IMDB list I posted and you will find numerous Pakistani as well as Indian guys in there. And it is true for many, many movies which have won Oscars. So why glorify just this one guy, why not the others who were part of the team as well?

Go back and read the first post and the jubilant posts that follows, it is quite clear that people think he alone won the Oscars, when in fact there were 100's of people involved. The response seems quite exaggerated.

As I mentioned earlier, only the music director gets the award, not the whole orchestra! Similarly those 4 guys which the Academy named, were the leaders and thus were named appropriately.

Are bhai, look at what the movie won specifically for Visual effects. Hence, the team members in the Visual effect team are the ones that are directly related to the Oscar. Not everyone involved in the movie is really important, because the movie won the Oscar in the Visual effects category only.

Check the number of people in visual effects category. It runs into more than 50, possibly 100.
A company with branches in 4 cities worked on it. The newspaper completely misread the whole thing.

Or probably it is deliberate paid news. Who knows. I already saw this type of story once.

Moral of the story: Cross check with other sources, unless it is a really good source like Dawn.

Are bhai, those are just the names of the people collected the awards on the stage. Anyone from the team can collect the awards, & those 4 did. Not each & every member of the team will be called onto the stage. Doesn't this picture mean anything to you?

No, if you could not collect personally and somebody else collected on behalf of you, that wont be on the website. Your name will be on the website. You are beyond ridiculous now.

The site mentions 4 names that won the award, there could be many people behind it.
He could not collect the award, fair enough, why did not site mention his name too, there should have been 5 names if he was important enough.

Guys just to shed some info on this..
I myself am a Visual effects TD working with Rhythm and Hues Studios in Mumbai and was a part of the team who worked on Golden Compass.
Rhythm & Hues has 4 offices worldwide (LA, Mumbai, Hyderabad n Malasia). (rhythm.com/about/locations)

There are around 700 artists based in LA, another 200 in Mumbai, around 250 in Hyderabad and some 100 in Malasia. So technically all 1000's of them are winners including 700 americans, 450 Indians (include me ) and a pakistani!
But Bill Westenhoffer (VFX supervisor) owns the oscy!

and yeah about that pic..even i've clicked myself holding oscy with Bill!
Chill !:bounce:
