Pakistani officials furious over ‘Homeland’

LOL... sometimes I like the way you think! :D

They have shown Pakistan getting nuked in Last Resort , lets make a movie in which jews are shown counting money while they get nuked , it will just a fictional TV show and none should get knots in their panties over it

.
Just because you may be an anti-Arab bigot and Hollywood lets you indulge in your bigotry doesn't make racial vilification right.

Totally brah, 500,000 people totally didn't die there in the last 3 years.

.
Well what could you expect from these idiots, their IQ is one of the worst in the world, most of the Americans don't even have a slightest ideas of the geography. This series is most probably for the consumption of the local Americans who wants to see brave Americans working round the clock for the safety of these ediots

This is just one example but there are quite a few and no matter what happens they will always show a darker side of Pakistan. What a horrible mistake liar at ali khan committed of ignoring Russia and went all the way to US. It's high time that Pakistan should re evaluate its policy and put more emphasis on improving relations with immediate neighbours of course except the one.

.
A show which won a prestigious Emmy award and is being watched not only by Americans, but many around the world. At least get your facts right. Also, a big thank you coming out of a country which pretends to be an ally. Fictitious or not, these lies are harming the image of Pakistan. Don't be in denial.
I second that.

Though understandable what AM is saying, Pakistanis must not lose focus.

But at the same time, we can not ignore this shyt taking place. If a slightest negative news becomes a "national security issue and might endanger American lives", how should Pakistanis not worry about such horse shyt being aired day in, day out during prime time?

Nazis killed 20 million people.
Stalin killed 20-60 million people.

By your logic, we should conclude that white people are inherently evil.

You are a bigot.

Showtime viewership pales in comparison to other TV channels. Homeland is popular because it is provocative show discussing a hot topic.

At its most basic form, it remains a fictional show. For entertainment purpose only.

But go right ahead, waste your topic worrying about things that have no impact on your life. What do I care. Ciao.

Fiction and entertainment in very bad taste I must confess. Why not produce a TV show in which our dear "allies" project the tens and thousands of sacrifices made by the Pakistani people?

Homeland is a fictitious show which tells lies and tries to create hateful feeling against Pakistanis in general. Let's not be in denial.

Why do you keep bringing in the viewership argument? It's not relevant. Besides, one viewer is one too many. If this is how you would like your country to be depicted by your ally be my guest.

Ciao indeed.

Stop getting high on rainbows.
Hitler's own nation disowns him. Even his party's symbol is a crime.
Same goes for Stalin.

You can conclude whatever you want. Numbers don't lie.
When you wake up from your dose of rainbow crack, let me know.

Here's a thought:

Instead of endless kvetching as to how Homeland gets it all wrong for Pakistan, why not help them get it right by doing something tangible? Invite the scriptwriters and the cast over and show them the country. Put on a show. Provide them with film-making facilities. Participate in the editing. Spend money where it will do some good.

That is how you play the game.

Mandy Patinkin plays former CIA honcho Saul Berenson during a tight spot of season four of "Homeland."

Claire Danes is lucky no Emmy voters live in Islamabad.

Pakistani officials are furious with Showtime after watching the fourth season of its hit show “Homeland,” which they say portrays their country as an ugly, ignorant, terror-plagued “hellhole.”

The diplomats took copious notes of every slight while binge-watching all 12 episodes — including the lack of greenery in the depiction of the nation’s capital, Islamabad.

They complained directly to producers of the Emmy-winning drama, but their gripes fell on deaf ears, Pakistani sources said.

“Maligning a country that has been a close partner and ally of the US . . . is a disservice not only to the security interests of the US but also to the people of the US,” Pakistan Embassy spokesman Nadeem Hotiana told The Post.

One of their beefs is that the show — which stars Danes as CIA Agent Carrie Mathison on assignment in Pakistan — trashed a diplomat’s image of the capital as a bucolic oasis.

“Islamabad is a quiet, picturesque city with beautiful mountains and lush greenery,” one source said. “In ‘Homeland,’ it’s portrayed as a grimy hellhole and war zone where shootouts and bombs go off with dead bodies scattered around. Nothing is further from the truth.”

The cable show’s “Islamabad” scenes were actually filmed in Cape Town, South Africa.
Pakistani diplomats also called out the show’s producers for misrepresenting their language.

“The Pakistani characters portrayed in the show speak English like Americans would,” a source said. “Also, when the characters in the show speak Urdu, the accent is far from the local accent.

“And the connotations of some of the Urdu words that are used are out of place.” The biggest gripe is that the show depicts Pakistan as undemocratic and allied with terrorists.

“Repeated insinuations that an intelligence agency of Pakistan is complicit in protecting the terrorists at the expense of innocent Pakistani civilians is not only absurd but also an insult to the ultimate sacrifices of the thousands of Pakistani security personnel in the war against terrorism,” a source said.

“Our culture embraces Western society. Pakistan believes in the democratic system of voting in our presidents.”

“Pakistanis never embraced the dictators who, in the past, ruled the country because they took over the presidency through violent means.

“Homeland’ makes it seem that Pakistan has contempt for Americans and its values and principles. That is not true.”

Season Four wrapped up its final episode last Sunday.

The show’s publicist referred The Post to Showtime representatives, who did not respond to requests for comment.

Hotiana said he just wished the producers had spent more time getting their facts straight. “A little research would have gone a long way,” he said.

Why in the world will we do that to a group of people who think like that of us? If they wanted an accurate portrayal of Pakistan, all they needed to do was a 15 min google search. The fact that they didn't bother means they don't give a sheet.

What if their intent is quite the opposite? Why would they want to visit your country when they have already made their mind to malign it in the first place? Isn't that the purpose of this entire episode? Pakistan being a deceitful country which is hand and glove with terrorists. Its streets filled with sand and dust. Good luck trying though.

So true. This is how Europe plays it, you seem their glimmering cities and breathtaking skylines in Hollywood movies/shows, you barely ever see the filth and deprived areas because the said nations are good at projecting the image they want you to see.

Irrelevant.
Your claim is that the actions of a few extremists define the entire race.

I can come up with any number of other examples -- from terrorism to atomic warfare -- where the perpetrators of mass murder are celebrated by their peoples or countries.

The fact remains that perception is 90% of reality, and Hollywood is an idea tool for propaganda.

Watched Zero Dark Thirty...and got to know that Arabic is fluently spoken in the streets of Rawalpindi and also in Abbottabad!

Pretty surprising, guess I have been living in the wrong country.

producers and directors should at least put these basic things right.
The producers and directors know that the average Joe in the West isn't an expert on Pakistan and Muslim countries thus no effort needed in making their films and TV shows accurate. For an average Westerner it doesn't matter if its Pakistan or Iraq, we're all the same to them, just as an average Pakistani can't tell the difference between the English or the Americans, to us they're all the same (Westerners).

Far too simplistic and naive.

The demonization of Pakistan is not an accidental result; it is part of a concerted and deliberate campaign.

The creators of the show have no desire to "get it right" and don't give a damn what Pakistan thinks. Their response to Pakistani complaints, as indicated in the OP, confirms as much.
