The United States is the largest importer of mangoes in the world fetching almost 45 per cent of the total mango imports.

ISLAMABAD:Wednesday, 16 Jun, 2010 Pakistani mangoes have finally gained access to the markets of the United States, and in this regard the US Federal Register will issue the notification next week; probably this is one of the best outcomes of Pak-US bilateral cooperation in agriculture.

A beaming Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Mohammad Gondal termed the US decision a major breakthrough in Pakistani exports, saying that the notification of US Federal Register will be made available to Pakistan by next Tuesday.

Mr Gondal told newsmen that the US decision will send a wave of jubilation in the mango growing areas of the country particularly the southern Punjab and mango growers will get a big boost.

The Federal Register (FR) is the official gazette of the federal government of the United States. In its journal, the FR will allow the importation into the US of Pakistani mango however its eradication would be carried by the US Department of Agriculture.

Pakistan is considered as the second largest export of mangoes and exports to UAE, Saudi Arabia, UK, Bahrain, Singapore and some other countries.

In Canada we get mangoes from Pakistan and India. US has strict agriculure import laws. Pakistani and Indian mangoes on sale in Toronto are expensive and usually rotten. They have to be picked and stored immediately in airconditioned trucks then airshipped to US and Canada. I would rather buy low qualty Mexican because they are cheaper and fresh. It is very rare to find Pakistani mangoes that are fresh. They taste better but not when they are rotten. PIA flies three times a week directly to Toronto from Pakistan bringing Mango shipments. But I have to check carefully each Mango before buying and then some are rotten inside. They are $20 per box of 12 mangoes.

Well that sucks.

Hopefully they can work out the logistics to where quality and expense is not compromised.

Don't hold your breath. They are tasty only and only when they are ripe and fresh. Just wait and see. We have bad experience of rotten and expensive Mangoes from Pakistan in Canada.

.
I think we can all agree that Pakistani mangoes are the best in the world :smitten:

I hope by exporting mangoes to the US, poor peoples in Pakistan will still be able to enjoy these sweet mangoes unlike home grown wheat or sugar that is unnecassarily exported to other countries leaving poor peoples in hunger

The only edible fruit in the North American market is the Apricot. I refuse to accept any other GM fruit that is ten feet tall and weighs 6kgs and tastes like crap.

Finally my favourite Sindharis, Chaunsas and Langaras will be here, at least next year. Thank you MoFA, awesome job. At least the Americans will now know what a Mango really tastes like.

Who is the largest exporter then ?

The biggest producer and exporter is India, to the world and the middle east as well.

Pakistan stands at 3rd in Mango Production and 4th in Mango Export. (Wikipedia lists Mango, Mangosteens and Guavas and not just Mangos).

You get plenty of Mangoes in the UK from India and Pakistan.

Indian Mangoes arrive early in the UK maket and their season finishes early.

Pak mangoes arrive late but are availble in plenty.

My preferance are Indian mangoes ( Badami , alphonso & Keasar )not for any nationalistic reasons but for their taste which are a lot better than pak mangoes.

Latin American Mangoes are the worst ones.

Good for Pak Mango Growers, they can make some good money.
