November 6 ... Today is 63rd Birthday of Tahira Syed
Tahira Syed is a Pakistani ghazal and folk singer. Her repertoire of Urdu, Punjabi, Dogri and Pahari folk songs have made her a popular singer.
Tahira Syed was born to Kashmiri vocalist Malika Pukhraj and Syed Shabbir Hussain Shah, a junior Punjabi government official and writer.
Tahira Syed obtained her primary education from the Convent of Jesus and Mary where she passed her Senior Cambridge examinations. She graduated from Lahore College, then studied law at the Punjab University. After obtaining an LLB degree, she enrolled in a Masters Program in English at Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore, but later dropped out of the college
Syed began singing, at age of 12, to please her mother. After two years of rigorous classical music training by Akhtar Hussain, Tahira was instructed in geet and ghazal by her mother. Her final teacher, Nazar Hussain, taught her voice modulation and raggi.
Tahira Syed first appeared on air in 1968–1969 on Radio Pakistan, and then on Pakistan Television and sang some of her most popular songs. In April 1985, she appeared on the cover of National Geographic magazine. She received the Pakistan Television Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Pride of Performance Award from the President of Pakistan on 23 March 2013. In 1972, she won the Nigar Award for Best Female Playback Singer.
Tahira Syed continues to perform at diverse events such as a "ghazal evening" in Dallas, Texas, U.S., a tribute to Faiz Ahmed Faiz in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S., and at the Faiz International Festival in Lahore.
Tahira Syed was married to lawyer Naeem Bukhari for 11 years
before their separation and divorce; they had two children. One of the reasons for their separation was the alleged affair with the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. She is a well-known personality in Pakistan and occasionally speaks publicly at art and literature events.

Farooq Qaiser started his career in the early 1970s after graduating from the National College of Arts, Lahore, with a short documentary in the English language. In 1971, his teacher Salima Hashmi got him involved in her children's television puppet show Akkar Bakkar. In that show, he worked with Shoaib Hashmi, Muneeza Hashmi and Faiz Ahmad Faiz on the scripts and puppets.
In 1976, Qaiser directed and wrote his own puppet show Kaliyan which became very popular in Pakistan at that time. He created his own fictional puppet characters for that show including Uncle Sargam, Haiga and Maasi Museebte. He also was the voice of Uncle Sargam in that show. He created the character 'Uncle Sargam' in resemblance to his teacher Mohan Lal from Romania.
