Whatever you say guys…But I am very happy with Jinna…I am thankful to him… Due to his thinking only today 1000s of terrorist is inside one boarder and world can identify them easily… otherwise India would have been into a very challenging and tough condition. Thanks a lot Jinna for making India a peaceful place.
its Jinnah and ur post is nothing but a piece of troll... which will derail this thread.....

Yes, the varied opinions you see here from various Pakistani members on this very forum is proof of that. Every Pakistani has a different idea about his or her identity, because there is no one such thing as a Pakistani identity, besides showing loyalty to the state of Pakistan (besides the corrupt politicians & religious fundos, the rest of the nation regardless of ethnicity is very loyal towards Pakistan).

Valid observations, but the original author's point was about some Pakistanis who disavow the pre-Islamic heritage. It is a valid point and we need to reverse this silly myopia about our history.

Yes, I agree with that. Pakistan's heritage is before Islam came to the region, thousands of years old, & we must accept all of it (including our pre-Islamic history) as part of our identity. Islam was used as a tool & means of uniting the different ethnicities in this nation together in the past, when our country's ethnicities had a lot of separatist tendencies, but we are past that stage now.

As for whether or not democracy works that way, there are many ways in which democracy works. A prejudiced old bigot who ties up deviants from his own moral philosophy and has them beaten up, and does this without being prosecuted and jailed under the Indian Penal Code, is also at this moment claiming to be the standard bearer of democracy in India.

Aah, not exactly wearing an Anna topi, are we? You guys become apoplectic at poor Anna but not a whimper out of you as lakhs are being murdered by corruption.

I dont think it was Jinnah's idea for a division...he wanted to head undivided India. I believe one of the main reason for the whole issue was Jahawarlal Nehru's insistance on being the 1st prime minister of Independent India, for which he had influenced even Mahatma Gandhi.

Sir,

It is a grossly mistaken belief that Nehru's overwhelming desire to be PM of India led to partition of India.

One should refer at least Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's "India wins Freedom" which is available free online. Plus Jaswant Singh's "Jinnah" ( You get a good pirated copy in Mumbai for Rs.150/-) and Ayesha Jalal's " The Sole Spokesman" if possible.

To put things in a nutshell, Sardar Patel, foresighted and pragmatic as always, was the first to get convinced that partition was the only option after the joint Congress-Muslim League ministry pre independence could not function at all due to sharp irreconciliable standoffs between the two parties. Then, the Sardar became the foremost pro- partition voice in the Congress, convinced ( very rightly now we can say) that Jinnah & his Muslim League would never allow them to develop India as they had envisioned and so it was better to loose a bit of territory to let Jinnah & company have their Pakistan and mess it around as they pleased, while the Congress & others could dedicate themselves to developing the remaining bigger chunk of India without the obstructive energies of the Muslim League to cope with. While he won over Nehru completely to his viewpoint, he could not convince Maulana Azad & Gandhiji.

Plus, just for argument's sake, why should have Nehru allowed Jinnah the PMship of free India? How many days did Jinnah spend in Jail fighting for Independence? NOT ONE SINGLE SOLITARY DAY. Compare this to Nehru, Patel & Co. who must have on aggregate spent years & years in prison. So who had the credentials to become PM of free India?

Cheers!

Good points.
The reason behind the seperation of Pakistan was A seperate land for muslims, and .The Land Of Pure and for muslim in sub-continent (Pakistan) having a history is as old as The first Human being Hazrat Adam(A.S) had been sended on earth. The first Prophet,Human and the first Muslim on Earth landed in Sub-continent...

There was no Indian nation pre-1947 either. Pakistan's history prior to the advent of Islam in the region is a huge part of its heritage as well.

before Pakistan there was British empire.....but the fact remains that Punjab,Sindh Baluchistan and Khyber province and Kashmir were still there and the local people have the claim on stuff that is found in their land...not some man from kerala sitting 3000 kilometers away.

a man from kerala should own what was physically present in kerala.....
similarly a man from Pakistani Punjab will own what physically existed in Pakistani Punjab and same goes for Baluchistan,Sindh and Kashmir and Khyber province.

dont waste your time trolling.

Only apologetic people here for Pakistan's so called identity crisis are few uninvited spin doctors who wants to read much on a well thought of, deliberately connived identity of an autonomous/sovereign/intelligent nation Pakistan.

It really is necessary for the vast mass of Indians to revise their assessments of Jinnah. The impression that we have is sadly mistaken and horribly distorted. To be quite fair, this is a process that is required on both sides; the Pakistani impressions of Gandhi, Nehru and Patel verge on caricature.

Thank you, however, for your correct setting of the role of Jinnah.

We need to consider this not in terms of that one event, but in terms of the much deeper question of identity politics in south Asia. The subject is far, far more delicate and layered than Hindu-Muslim rivalry.

On the contrary, Jinnah had not even visualised a role for himself. At the time of independence, he already knew that he had very few months to live; for him to have had ministerial ambitions is an absurd proposition. You should be aware that he was even a reluctant Governor-General, and took that position only when he realised that the absurd popinjay Mountbatten had himself in that position, on both sides of the divide!

It is true that practically all segments of Congress opinion thought Nehru, as Gandhi's 'anointed' political heir, would lead the new nation; it is not at all clear that Nehru lobbied for the position directly, although Gandhi had to intervene to maintain good relations between Nehru and Patel! On the other hand, contrary to the impression your note conveys, at a certain stage in the discussions, when the Cabinet Mission talks had broken down, and it seemed that there was only the ghastly last resort of partition left, Gandhi tried desperately to salvage the situation by offering Jinnah the Prime Ministerial position of an undivided India. Jinnah did not take this personal bribe and stayed with the political agenda of preserving Muslim minority identity in south Asia that the Muslim League had adopted. And that is what lies behind the story of Gandhi offering him the Prime Minister's post.

I am sorry to read this simplistic depiction of what was in fact an extremely complex political and social situation.

thank you very much sir for your post because atleast someone has the courage to tell the truth. The bolded parts are answers to everyone blaming Jinnah for 1947 riots.

Indian members please See the clear picture. its a historic fact so please accept it.
