why??? this will put a target on their backs by Taliban, LeT, JuD!!
Taliban are dead, LeT attack only Indians and JuD attacks only Shias, so Hindus are safe

This is how you give equal rights, public holiday for Muslim festivals and no holidays for festivals of minorities.
many minorities do have holidays, dude

. . .
Not sure what the fuss is if something does not wants to work that day take a day off

Gurunak Jayanti is Holiday in Pakistan which is the main festival of Sikhs. Likewise, Diwali for Hindus. They should also be given Holiday. :enjoy:

Which always surprised me, since Sikhs number in thousands, while Hindus and Christians, in millions.

Sorry.. Muslims dont get Public holiday on Eid In Europe and America.

Actually they do. Most university calenders mark on the expected date, the major religious festivals like Eid, Diwali, Ramazan, Holi etc. University regulations state that if a religious holiday is recognized on the university calender, then the respective students can request holiday from academic/sports/teaching duties and that absence must be provided without any marked absence or penalty. The small liberal arts college i was at in USA, had very little religious population, mostly foreign Indians/Pakistanis/Chinese etc, and as such we could get a day or two off if we wanted. Heck, they would even arrange alternative exams for us, like instead of in class exams, we would get take home exams or exams at a earlier/later date. So i believe it would be even more apparent in big state universities where large number of immigrant/foreign students study. You don't have to request a holiday, but if you do, it does not and must not affect your academic standing in any case. Each year on the 1st day of Ramadan, all Muslim students would be invited to break fast and have iftar with the university's president at his private home. I remember, that would be the best food!!!

Now about work places, different places have different laws. Generally they don't state it, but it can be at the discretion of your supervisor, who considering the work to be done, sometimes agrees to let you off with pay (depending on company policies, so it WILL VARY) or some concession. Generally if you let them know in advance that you have a religious festival coming up, something can usually be arranged. Just don't be a d**k.

Other members living abroad can probably add some of their experiences.

Yes, we also have a flexible system in which you can opt for the festivals to take a day off on.

There would be no need for any Hindu holidays because soon there would be none left.
