Pakistani fertilizer fuels Afghan bombs

As Ahmad said you guys take every topic defensive; Not only from Iran/Uzbekistan but they can also use Afghanistan's locally produced fertilizers the ban is only on imports from Pakistan! as this news clearly elaborates that how it is produced, smuggled and at the end it gets into the wrong hands.

Then tell me what in your opinion problem will solve after ban on import? Then what if they will use your own fertilizer products as you mentioned, could it be resulted in ban of local production? I think not.

Ammonium nitrate decomposes into gases including oxygen and Nitrogen to make Nitrous oxide when heated (non-explosive reaction); however, ammonium nitrate can be induced to decompose explosively by detonation. Large stockpiles of the material can be a major fire risk due to their supporting oxidation, and may also detonate, as happened in the Texas City disaster of 1947, which led to major changes in the regulations for storage and handling.

There are two major classes of incidents resulting in explosions:

* In the first case, the explosion happens by the mechanism of shock-to-detonation transition. The initiation happens by an explosive charge going off in the mass, by the detonation of a shell thrown into the mass, or by detonation of an explosive mixture in contact with the mass. The examples are Kriewald, Morgan (present-day Sayreville, New Jersey), Oppau and Tessenderlo.

* In the second case, the explosion results from a fire that spreads into the ammonium nitrate itself (Texas City, Brest, Oakdale), or from a mixture of ammonium nitrate with a combustible material during the fire (Repauno, Cherokee, Nadadores). The fire must be confined at least to a degree for successful transition from a fire to an explosion (a phenomenon known as "deflagration-to-detonation transition", or DDT). Pure, compact AN is stable and very difficult to ignite, and there are numerous cases when even impure AN did not explode in a fire.

Ammonium-nitrate-based explosives were used in the Oklahoma City bombing.

Ammonium nitrate decomposes in temperatures normally well above 200°C. However the presence of impurities (organic and/or inorganic) will often reduce the temperature point when heat is being generated. Once the AN has started to decompose, then a runaway reaction will normally occur as the heat of decomposition is very large. AN evolves so much heat that this runaway reaction is normally impossible to stop. This is a well-known hazard with some types of N-P-K Fertilizers, and it is responsible for the loss of several cargo ships.

Under normal handling conditions, ammonium nitrate is not harmful. However, inhalation of high concentrations of ammonium nitrate dust can cause respiratory tract irritation. Symptoms may include: coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath, or even suffocation. When swallowed in high concentrations, ammonium nitrate may cause headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, weakness, a tingling sensation, heart and circulation irregularities, convulsions, collapse, and suffocation. Ammonium nitrate forms a mild acid when mixed with water. This acid can cause irritation to the eyes, nose, and skin.[11]

In November 2009, a ban on ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate, and calcium ammonium nitrate fertilizers was imposed in the former Malakand Division—comprising the Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Swat, Chitral, and Malakand districts of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) of Pakistan—by the NWFP government, following reports that those chemicals were used by militants to make explosives. In January 2010, these substances were also banned in Afghanistan for the same reason.

So you’re telling that there are no fertilizer production facilities in Afghanistan???

What the hell Americans been doing there last 10 years if not helping rebuild Afghanistan??

Man you are clueless about everything. Do you really think 10 years alot of time? we surly had many many progress in this 10 years, but to change a devastated Afghanistan to an industrial country will only be the job of Prophets who can perform miracles.

It will not completely solve the problem but it will make it difficult for them to acquire the fertilizers. When Karzai ordered the ban it was on all including local productions but the ministry of agriculture and irrigation took it's steps to produce simple non-ammonium fertilizers and that will not help Taliban.

Clueless??????? you really think Americans are there for nation building?????

They got their man and nothing much they can do now with constant stubborn resistance

10 years not long time?????? You gotta be kiddin me

When USA leaves Afghanistan in 2014-15 gonna say 15 years is not long time too???

uhhh ok whatever you say

At least the Indians have built something of Afghanistan even if its not enough.

peace

Putting a ban on the fertilizer in Afghanistan does not mean fertilizer will stop being produced there.

Off course 10 years is nothing, even another 2 decades is nothing. Different cournties around the world and in the region spent god knows how many trillions of dollars to destablize Afghanistan in the last 35 years, it will take many times more times, efforts and resourcs as well as will to reverse all those. It is difficult for people to understand Afghanistan unless they go there themselves, behind computer talk wont help. Let me give you a simple example, if you drop a glass on a concret, it will only take 2-3 seconds for the glass to hit the concret and smash into 10s of pieces, now try to make that wrong, right, how long will it take if you want to make a glass? how much money will you require, how much time, planning and other things? Look at afghanistan, in everyday's destruction and fighting, we are left behind thousands of days. This is not easy situation.

And by the way, i not only believe the americans, but everybody else who is trying to tell us that they are helping us if you know what i mean
. We have been bitten quite alot, we cant trust people taht easily anymore.

There is another FRIGGIN Option for the USA. Get the FRIGGIN Hell out of Afganistan and Iraq, dummies. Our Economy can't bear these TRILLION Dollar WARS.

not just a pakistan problem we too have had bombs go off using ammonia nitrate.

.
Ammonium nitrate is simply too easily converted into powerful bombs. The normal iron bombs dropped by air force jets is a high percentage of ammonium nitrate... AMATOL.

The problem is that it is an outstanding fertilizer. It provides more nitrogen than something like calcium or potassium nitrate. Still, there are substitutes that can be used.

We don't have a problem with Afghanistan banning fertilizer coming in from Pakistan but we do have a problem wit how facts are twisted and made to look like. The headline " Pakistani fertilizer fuels Afghan Bombs" make it seem like that the whole mess in Afghanistan is because of Pakistan and if it weren't for the damned fertilizer coming in from Pakistan, Afghanistan would be a paradise. Is there any proof that all of the bombs made in Afghanistan use Pakistani fertilizer ? Was there any study which conclusively showed that in fact the fertilizer is Pakistani made and smuggled from Pakistan ? What are those scientific basis on which this claims are being made?

Even if we were to take this accusation on face value, the culprit is the menace of smuggling and not the fertilizer industry. Everything from livestock to fresh fruits/vegetables to automobiles is smuggled into Afghanistan from Pakistan having an adverse impact on the Pakistani economy. We would gladly lock the border down but Afghanistan is a landlocked country and would suffer more than anyone else,a fact which I guess stilt eludes many in Afghanistan . Considering your geography and dependence on Pakistan, wouldn't it be more prudent to sit down and handle all the issues rather than engage yourself in a juvenile mud slinging competition ?

satyanass......ab tu Afghanistan mein aik makhi b marti hai tu woh b hamaray mathay laga daitay hain:hitwall:
Dont blame PAkistan for every problem of yours......grow up and take your own responsibility of controlling things in your country......................:argh:

simply because there are no fertilizer production facilities in Afghanistan and they use most of pak made items if we stop it what will happen to afghan agriculture sure it will effect or else they will got it from somewhere else .BTW US china made computers also use as tool of terror and dont forget 90% of russian made arms in hands of taliban .don't make roads they use it for transport .why you forget they use china made bikes for transport .lolz

BS blame game nothing more
