Pakistani engineers overhaul AWACS jet bombarded in attack

.
Erieye was just the beginning, the damaged P3Cs are also being repaired at home without any foreign assistance.

Enjoy the perils of having a self sufficient aviation industry and who knows what more is to come.
Americans said they were going to replace those P3Cs but i think they never did?

Pakistan is not considered to be "safe" for Western Engineers, so noone wanted to go.

That reflects bad on the supplier's part. Even cars have after sales service, we are talking about a fucking AWAC that costed billions.

Reflects as bad on the purchasers side.

Why did the Swedes refuse to help?

you know westerns dont repair, they insist on buy new.
you can buy a new car for $20,000 then you can buy 1/10th of parts used in that same car seperatley and it would cost you the same as buying a new car. the under seat spring in my car broke I removed the part and went to dealer and asked if I can buy this, they said no cant buy just the springs you have to buy the seat for $800, couldn't find anywhere, went to welders to make one no one will do it, So I did a desi jugad and it worked fine.

No they did not. The US initially did offered as stated by the article but it never materialized.

I stand corrected. I thought they were delivered. So Pakistan Navy has seven P3Cs instead of nine.

There was another reason, the Chinese had inspected P3C way back in President. Bush's time when they forced landed one and then removed all the equipment, etc from it. So they had learned all about that plane's tech already. Now they are building similar platforms, albeit with today's technology (as P3C was based on older but excellent tech). So from my understanding and research, the Chinese are already testing tech that is 70-80% on par with P-8's. So Pakistan obviously wants to get those.

Also, the planes the Pakistani's will use, will be newer versions of the same aircraft that's being used as the Karakoram Eagle AWACS. Which comes like 50% less pricey compared to Boeing's jets. So the PN wants to buy those and they cn afford more too. My guess is they might combine some EW aircraft with ASW platforms too like they intended to do with P3C's with Hawkeye radar on it back in 2006.

For people wondering why Sweden refused this link should help (http://www.nyteknik.se/nyheter/saab-kan-fa-ny-order-men-teknikerna-tvekar-6404162). Its in Swedish but translate using google. Basically the gist is that in 2013, no engineers from SAAB wanted to travel to Pakistan given the security situaiton.

Things post zarb e azb have changed now however. On my flight to Lahore earlier this year, I met a Swedish guy working for Telenor. So as things stabilize in the country, the security factor will diminish. Either way Pakistan did a good job of repairing it on its own

go to auto wreckers, $50 entry fee on weekend, you can get whatever you can walkout with whatever you can carry on your body

Perhaps, but we did a good job of fixing the aircraft. I wonder how this will affect the future relationship between the supplier and buyer. Pakistan will invest in alternative options to complement Swedish AWACS for sure. Also, fixing the aircraft is very beneficial for Pakistan. Our engineers must have learned a lot of details about the aircraft.

More aggressive negotiations will be sought with guarantees of spare and blue prints.
