Pakistani chief ministers pay almost no tax
Wednesday, 22 December 2010
ISLAMABAD: The chief ministers of Pakistans four provinces, who have reportedly given their assent for the imposition of the Reformed General Sales Tax, pay almost zero income tax, a fact they admitted in their sworn affidavits submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan before the 2008 elections.
While Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Khyber Pakhtunkhwas Haider Hoti disclosed having not paid a single penny, their counterparts in Sindh and Balochistan, Qaim Shah and Aslam Raisani, respectively, said they had paid the tax, but the amounts mentioned are ridiculous.
The Sindh chief minister said he had paid Rs225 as income tax. Raisani paid Rs1,492 as income tax the year he became the provinces chief minister.
