WASHINGTON: About the time Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his cohorts were laboring to build a narrative about their country being a frontline state/victim of terrorism and the India's role in fermenting unrest in the country, two Pakistanis in Canada were being bundled on to airplanes for deportation to Pakistan because they were considered a terrorist threat to Canada's national security.

In itself, the deportation was not unusual; Pakistanis are deported and extradited all the time across the world. But this particular episode was on unfamiliar territory because both deportees were permanent residents of Canada, and Ottawa, after stripping them off their status, was forcing them back to their home country amid protests from Islamabad. In fact, the deportation followed weeks of diplomacy between Canada and Pakistan, which was reluctant to take the men back, according to Canada's National Post, which first reported the incident.

The episode is the first test of a controversial new law enacted by the Stephen Harper government in Canada that can actually revoke even the citizenship of convicted terrorist who is born and brought up in Canada. At least Jahanzeb Malik and Mohammed Aqeeq Ansari, the first two accused, had the misfortune of being born in Pakistan. The case of Saad Gaya tests the limits of the new law: Gaya, 27, will be the first Canadian-born citizen (terrorist or not) to ever face the prospect of being stripped of his citizenship. Until now, there was no legal mechanism to undo what has long been considered an irreversible birthright, according to Maclean's magazine, which examined the issue at length in a recent issue.

Its high time Pak should stop its support to terrorism against India, Pak is just spoiling its furture for Kashmir. I mean its known to everyone that India and Pak can never get the part occupied by other by diplomacy or by war so why all this chutiyapa on both sides. Just concentrate on your economies, anyhow we have bloated kashmiris mind alot that they are the most egoistic people in the region, they feel like they can do whatever they feel like, throw stones at armed forces, show isis' flags, openly organise freedom marches and what not. Sometimes I feel like they should have been in China or Saudi Arabia then they would have known what it feels like going against own people.

What has this got to do with Islamabad's state policy?

There is enough material to criticize Islamadab's state policy on terrorism, specifically the use of terrorists as an instrument of foreign policy. But using two individuals who were probably radicalized living in Canada has nothing to do with it and its Pakistan bashing, not criticizing Pakistan's policy.

Poor article.

Indian media should do a better job of doing substantive investigative journalism to expose how Pakistan's state protects terrorists, instead of such hit jobs.

Even a Pakistani poster here did a 100 times better job

next lal masjid ?masood azhar madrasa bahawalpur

Most of them do petty jobs or remain unemployed so it's not surprising plus they will get the sure job back home according to their nature.

Canada is Truman Show in perpetuity! How can one deport citizens born in that country? A joke of a prime minister and a Senate making laws to make its own citizens second class. Pakistan and Pakistanis have a target on their back because of changing geopolitical situation and India rising as wests main go to and "expert" on Muslims. There are people in that country who take Tarek Fatah of all people seriously what can you expect?
