Muhammad Waseem defeated Abdul Omar of Ghana to confirm a place in the final
GLASGOW: (Dunya News) – Pakistan rejoices another victory in Common Wealth Games 2014 today (Friday) as the national boxer Muhammad Waseem beat his opponent from Ghana, Abdul Omar, to assure himself of a place in the final.
The boxer won the semi-final match of the 52 kilograms category (fly weight) to confirm one more medal for Pakistan in the ongoing Common Wealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Waseem landed punch after punch on his opponent’s face and won the three-round match 3 – Nil.
Waseem has now made his way to the final of the tournament where he will have to beat Australian national Andrew Moloni to win the Gold Medal for his nation.
It is pertinent to mention here that by winning this match, Waseem has ensured himself of a medal, be it gold or silver.
Pakistan has won three medals in the Common Wealth Games 2014 and the number will rise to 4 now. The national squad has won three medals so far out of which two were silver while one was bronze.
Though Muhammad Waseem had earlier complained about the unsatisfactory standard of training for the tournament in the national camp, the resilience of the Quetta-born boxer has taken him through to the final of the mega-event. The final will be played tomorrow (Saturday).
