Neither do most Jains I know personally. Does not prevent Sikhs from following their own faith and customs, neither the Jains. Neither the Indian state nor Indians disallow either group from calling themselves Sikhs and Jains. And having Jain or Sikh after their name in the Religion column. Or counted as Jains or Sikhs separately in official Census. Not as Hindus. And given minority status, separate and distinct from Hindus. As far as I know (I'm not an expert), it only in Civil issues of Marriage and Property that they do have have their own separate laws but are covered under Hindu laws. Which has been their longstanding (and in my view, legitimate) demand. Hope you can appreciate the difference here.
Its because of majority.
However we are Islamic republic of Pakistan and all the sects of Islam in Pakistan collectively demanded and the politician of that time voted so that amendment was happen. However now its is the part of Pakistan constitutions and as a Pakistani I fully support that.
