LAHORE: Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar has stated that the government will simultaneously go for the construction of Dasu and Diamer Basha projects to meet electricity requirements of the country.
Together these two projects will generate up to 8800 Mega Watt hydro-electricity.

Addressing a function of Lahore Chambers of Commerce in Lahore on Saturday, he said Dasu power project will help generate 4500 megawatt of electricity. World Bank will provide seven hundred million dollars for the project. He said that the institutions which were not intended to talk with Pakistan are contacting themselves with government due to its positive policies. He said that the international finance corporation would lend $3 billion to Pakistan.

He said Diamer Basha dam project is important because it will not only help generate electricity but also store water to irrigate the land. Land acquisition has been started for this project.

The Finance Minister said the government is particularly focusing on hydel projects to generate cheap electricity.

He said difficult decisions have been taken to put the economy on the right track and achieve sustainable growth level. He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his meeting with US President Barack Obama reiterated his government’s resolve to stand on its feet instead of seeking aid. Ishaq Dar said the development projects are decreased with the more and more subsidy given to people.

He said that we have to promote agriculture and economic sectors of the country for the progress of the country, adding that we have not explored the reserves present inside the lands of the country. He said that there are verified reports in the world that there are huge reserves present in Pakistan.

I will start ripping them in pieces if I dont see anything concrete on the ground within a year. They dont want me as their enemy

But it will take time.. The 8800 MW of electricity will enter into the system at around 2020-2022. At that time, the demand will be much higher. Government should focus more on coal based power plants to fill demand and supply gap first while simultaneously keep replacing the oil and natural gas based power plants with coal, wind, solar & nuclear power plants. The hydro plans are much time consuming.

we need to convert those plants on coal which are being run on gas or oil and also make several new plants on different canals and rivers and small lakes and streams to produce electricity and also go for Solar and Wind one they have high cost of establishing these plants but when established they give lot of electricity

If it sees completion then it will ease some of Pakistan chronic power shortages. but i am afraid that by the times its operational the requirement would have increased to make this effort negligible.

I'll be damned. We have seen how committed the PM really is.......He hardly ever visits Pakistan. Good thing is we as a nation have to learn much much more and the previous 5 years were just a start.

dunya ko woh shaks sab say bara BEWAKOOOF hey jo Ishaq Dar jesay ****** shaks ke baat pe yakeen karay... this man destroy Pakistan in 99 and now again...

Tsunami people are not interested in petty $700million, they are busy cementing democracy via article 6.
Lucky govt. keep getting blessed from disguise.

Pakistan is full of Rivers, If Very Cheap Electricity has to produce and also Stop Floods in every few years and also collect Fresh Drinkable Water and for Agriculture purpose, We have to build Dams and then from those Dams we have to Produce Electricity for Future of Our Generations, KalaBagh Dam has to build also by Strong Central Govt., also we have to work on Emergency Basis in Making Lakes, Water Reservoirs all around the Pakistan on Urgent Basis, Future for Pakistan is in HYDRO, Small Hydro plants also could be build on Pakistan Mountain Areas too:pakistan::smitten:

Yupp, I didn't say stop working on hydro power projects. Hydel energy is the cheapest source of energy, but its really much time consuming. It takes years even for a small hydro power project completion. There are many factors associated with a hydro power project like the affected people resettlement, land irrigation etc.. So, at one end Govt. should keep working on hydro projects but on the other end, they should also boost the work on other power projects. BTW, I don't expect much from the PMLN Government but atleast, I hope they will resolve the energy crisis like the way they are taking the initiatives. So far, they are going fine
