What's new

Pakistan will take possession of 18 late-model F-16 fighter jets

F 16 deal i dont know what hell is with it 18 now 18 we get late model before we got 4 what was those for than

well statement says "new late model f16". if it is new cant be embargoed one as they can not b called new. other hint is "late" which again suggest newer rather than older.

now question comes to which block? 50/52 or 60! interpretation of statement hints towards f16 blk 60. we r so conservative towards US that most of us still stuck to f16 blk 15/16. which actually to b blamed to US who made us think that way, but remember first f16 we got em when US needed us the most. it could b the case now for blk 60. but like others in forum i wont go to that distance, it all can b speculative.

Well if it was as block 60 , we would first hear it from India times frist as usual , but it would be probbly Block C/D planes which are good planes for Pakistan needs

Guys there are multiple news items floating around and this has created a substantial amount of confusion.

As it stands today, the PAF will receive the 18 Blk 52's it had originally bought. It has not yet exercised its options for the further 18 and may not do so, as indicated by official sources of the PAF. The planes which have gone for MLU are different and should not be confused with these 18. They will being arriving sometime in 2011.

By "late models" the source means the Block 52's. Block 60's include various other upgrades, the main one being the AESA radar, which the PAF has not yet contracted for.

Hope this clears out some of the confusion.

Any credible link that suggests these are going to be block 52. In my view these are the ones we ordered during 80's and did not get. Now we are getting them courtesy excess defense equipment. The case might be that these have been upgraded.

^They were sold to Newzland and some are in USAF aggressor Sq.

The U.S. will deliver this month to Pakistan 1,000 sophisticated laser-guided bomb kits that would enable the government there to strike insurgent targets with more precision.

The arms sale suggests that U.S. officials are trying to deepen America's relationship with Pakistan and increase military cooperation. The U.S. has been trying to encourage Pakistan to take a tougher stand against Taliban forces operating within its borders.

Lt. Col. Jeffry Glenn, an Air Force spokesman, said Tuesday the U.S. had delivered 1,000 MK-82 bombs to Pakistan last month. This month's shipment of kits would enable Pakistan to use sophisticated laser technology to guide the bombs to specific targets.

Glenn said the U.S. also plans to provide Pakistan 18 new F-16 fighter jets by June.
